McCann, decent player on a poop team going nowhere. It was either him or Kerfoot because of salary - he makes $3M. I'm very good with Kerfoot.
Freddie should do well on a team stacked with 10 years of top ten draft picks. He still sucks ass in my view. When you really need a save, that five hole the size of the Grand Canyon opens up to let in a softee. Not so much for Campbell. Couldn't afford $5M for a backup goalie, which is what Freddie would have been on the Leafs. - winsix
Right now, and I don't know if it will stay this way obviously, Kerfoot is playing better than McCann, offering us more of what _we_ need in terms of his versatility. The primary statistical difference is that McCann is getting a lot of power play time and Kerfoot is not.
Alexander Kerfoot has 11 5v5 points (19th in the league) averaging 12:39 / game.
Jared McCann has 6 5v5 points (157th in the league)averaging 11:19 / game.
On the power play, McCann has 5 goals in 34:13 of time. Kerfoot has 0 points in just 2:10 of time.
Kerfoot has 36:14 of PK time and has been on the ice for 4 goals against in that time. McCann has only 0:24 of PK time and has been on the ice for 1 goal against in that time.
As for Carolina - they're a well built team, done so with a solid vision of who they are and they want to be - with a great smothering style. They forecheck hard to keep the puck up ice, support back hard so they can close off the neutral zone, and pressure in the D-Zone. They are a goalie's dream. When it breaks down it breaks down allowing for a fair number of high danger chances against, and Freddie has been equal to the task. I'd said in the off-season that I hoped he could regain his form - but I was certain he wouldn't do it _here_.
I've always liked the way Brind'Amour has that team playing. It'll be interesting to see how much they progress when they have a goalie they trust behind them.

Campbell continues to be superb. Not sure why management is hesitating on signing him long term. There is virtually no upside to delaying it.
- winsix
The only upside is Campbell getting more $$$
The downside is the Leafs will need to shell out $$ and players to do so. |

Great team win
LA announcers…..
“That’s 3 or 4 times that Marner has had an open look, but has tried to set up Matthews” - mr.sir
I know
Shoot the freakin puck at the net!!

All of the above?
I feel most people are only waiting for the new management to be announced so we can look towards the future, because you just know nothing is coming out of that group.
I'd feel much safer with anyone else but Trevor Timmins making that top 5/10 pick for us. - Scabeh
The entire team doesn't look great but I was curious on how people feel with the Dvorak trade now?
Maybe it's easier now that KK hasn't been spectacular.

Well he wasn't drafted by Carolina. - Scabeh
It doesn't change the fact he isn't a top 10. The person didn't say had to be drafted by Carolina
But he's the only other one on the team in the last 10 years. A couple guys from 2010'ish like Nino.

I’d leave Kerf in top 6 and try Engvall or Spezz as 3c
That’s just me - Garnie
I think he'd be moved to C if they don't want mess with the 2nd line chemistry. |

I think most still like the player and the contract for the next 3 years.
The frustration mostly comes from giving up a first round pick to acquire him after the obvious conclusion that him being in the lineup did not prevent the team from completely crashing in their stanley cup final hangover.
Basically: We didn't need to give a first round pick to be this bad, we could be this bad WITH that pick still in hand.
Seeing as Carolina is looking damn great though, that pick may be a very late first so... silver lining?

Fine. I really thought the point was about Carolina drafting these guys. I give them full credit for how they built their team without resorting to full tanking through good picks, good trades and good UFA signing.

Personal choice I guess. I look at teams with players with first round picks, aside from their own draftees. Leafs had a ton on their team before the Matthews era and even when they drafted him they still did/do.
Carolina gets a lot of credit. Seems like the new age Predators but better.

His goal was on the third line.
He’ll be moved… they’re not having a rookie C on the shutdown line - Dozzer
I hear yeah but would that like playing two rookie D together?
I also think that either Kerfoot or Engvall moves to 3rd line C |

Not sure that actually defines Carolina. Aside from Svechnikov, who did they draft in the top 10?
Off the top of my head, no one else? - Scabeh
Hanafin, Staal I guess, Jarvis was 13th and Necas was a 12th, Bean was a 15th, they were actually very good at drafting where excellent players like Pesci, Slaven and Aho were drafted later, I mistakenly thought them to be higher.
As far as Freddie goes, he's 0 for 8 in the past playoff deciding games. Fake thinks my opinion that he sucks is "foolish".

Both have been trade away.
And Hanifin was traded FOR Hamilton.
Bottom line, they are a team built through the draft, but not through a decade of accumulating top 10 picks. They just made good picks at the right time.
The bastards.

The eternal optimist. After the management change the Habs are headed for and Price back in net, Habs finish in 9th or 10th and pick up a very good grinder to replace Danault.
Be honest, is Dvorak a top six player on a good team?

Well if I'm an eternal optimist, you're an eternal dreamer of the Habs demise.
Ideally, Dvorak would be a great 3rd line centre instead of a mediocre 2nd line centre.
The good news, he's not paid like a good 2nd line centre either so I guess we're getting close to what we're paying for if you consider how bad 80% of the team has looked since the season started. |

As I've said before to you I hold all teams that are not the Leafs with equal contempt. There is no special animosity. There are no second favorites.
