Bergervin fired. If PD isn't next it means he is directly following EM instructions when it comes to adding salary and cheaper players. - GrimmdaGoalie

With the Sens luck, they'll pick 4th after finishing last. For whatever reason, the Sens never move up in the draft lottery, its either they stay status quo or move down. - Kevin Francis
New draft rules no, so they can't finish worse than 3rd?
The more ottawa thing would be to go on a winning streak at the end of the year |

You never want to endorse losing games, but it's undeniably irritating to watch them slip from picking 5th overall to picking 10th overall in a season that was lost in the first few weeks, just because they won 2 utterly meaningless games. Especially when they also then proceed to piss away whatever benefit or momentum there might have been from those late-season wins by failing to improve the roster in any way, letting their captain miss training camp with a contract hold-out, and screwing around yet again by adding too many useless veterans. Then you compare their pick with the likes of Johnson, Eklund, Guenther, Brandt, or Edvinsson... any of which would easily have been the top prospect in the system, other than Sanderson.
The 2022 draft looks more promising in terms of C options that could still be on the board in the 5-10 range if they end up there. Wright is undeniably the prize of the draft class, but any of Coolley, Savoie, or Geekie would be very welcome additions down the middle. Then again, as you noted, when all of Pinto, White, and Sanderson are in the lineup, they could very well miss out on those with another late-season surge.

People are talking about a trade for Kane.... Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing Kane in a Sens jersey. Him with Brady would be quite good I think.
But.... It would have to basically be a cap dump for the Sharks, Ottawa wouldn't be giving up anything major, Salary would need to be retained and Kane would need to be told "This is your last chance in the NHL... You are on a very short leash"
Maybe even have him doing some therapy on the side. |

Let say Kane is brought in at trade deadline (or before) with 50% salary retained. How would it work cap-wise if things didn't work out and Ottawa wanted to buy him out next year? |

Ottawa wouldn’t be giving up anything at all. Dump Murray on them, straight up

I mean, if we were going to give up Murray for Kane... I'd still want Salary retained by the sharks.
Although I'm still not convinced that giving up on Murray is the way to go. They guy is a two time cup winner. He needs his confidence back.
And even more important, we don't want to throw Gus in a bad situation and ruin his confidence.

I believe SJS are putting Kane on waivers. Four years at seven million. Thirty years old. Checkered history. I'm passing on that thank you.
Do the Sens really need to add the drama he would bring? He's a good player but... What a mess if it went sideways on you!!!
Hard NO!!! |

The difference is u are getting rid of an overpriced player you shouldn't have signed that has issues that you cannot start positionally for an an overpriced player etc. that you CAN play.
If Kane was a RW, this would make a lot of sense. But he is a LW and we have too many of those.

Kane can also play Center.... and he has the talent to be a #1C.... problem being the price tag and the history.
Sharks would need to retain salary, especially because of the bonuses and Kane would need a very short leash and would need to understand that this is his last chance.
I would almost say as part of the deal that he has to do some therapy |

Things look bleak in Ottawa, but it could be worse, the Sens could do something like put Pierre McGuire in a Management position. And have that guy making hockey decisions.
cheer up

I guess you missed the part about Kane being put on waivers.
Now that I think about it I find it kind of funny. Two teams each putting a player on waivers that nobody wants and some Ottawa people saying we'll take your guy off your hands if you take our guy but you've got to retain some salary.
It's like when we were kids and picking players for our teams and you always got picked last.
What I would want to know is how much of Kane's issues were real and how much was just the product of the 24/7 outrage machine.
That's important because if someone is targeted by the 24/7 outrage machine it doesn't matter what's true or not and the many spineless adherents to that 24/7 outrage machine will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat.
That's mainly why I say no to Kane. Murray is just an underperforming goaltender. He's not the devil made flesh and Ottawa fans can live with that. |
