Looking forward to the next 24-48 hours of rational media discussions of Gorton not being from Quebec or French.

Pierre McGuire has spent enough time under the wing of Pierre Dorion. He is ready.

I'm hoping they hire someone who has significant experience. a guy like Vincent Damphousse doesn't seem like an awful choice but he probably would have a way bigger learning curve and catching up to do than other guys who are already currently involved in the league.
- Pat1993

Interesting. I might be out to lunch here but why does every gm have to be an ex nhl player. Why not hire a guy with excellent management skills instead of a decent nhl career?

Patrick Roy as president of hockey operations, and McGuire as the puppet GM. a recipe for instant success.

oh it was just a random name, a lot of fans want an ex-hab/player at all costs but I don't really care about that.

Jean-Guy Tremblay took his family and went along with 2 other families to Cape Cod. He was very offended that no one working there could speak French and it traumatized him, so he vowed to never go back as he folded his speedo. This will re-open those wounds

Well drafting kotkeniemi romanov guhle etc should of helped. Habs just can’t develop a player to save their lives. I would focus more on that department personally
- cburgess

I think that is why they are looking at Gorton, his background is drafting and ayer development. He also made some good trades...

What his role would be is unknown, but it is speculated Pres of Hockey Ops type deal.

Like who tho? I’m not saying bergevin doesn’t need to go, just saying the next guy has his hands tied walking into the current situation
- cburgess

Brisebois being already GM, the guy at the top of my list is Martin Madden Jr.
my personal favorite would be Joey Juneau, but I know that won't happen.
then you have Darche, Quintal, Damphousse, Bouchard, Brière, Roy... and certainly others I forget

yes Brière is currently learning the ropes for the Flyers ECHL team.
Bouchard as in Joel Bouchard who was successful as GM in junior, and recently in the organization.
you need a guy with a vision and leadership. a brillant guy, not a boys club. the skills he can surround himself wisely if needed.

well you can talk about it and wish for it all you want, but if those 2 guys are actually hired I will personally start a petition and organize a protest in front of the Bell center to prevent this madness.

From EE:

Wonder if Roberto Luongo would consider leaving FLA to be GM in MTL.
If so, he'd be on a list of potential candidates that have been mentioned--Patrick Roy, Martin Madden Jr., Mathieu Darche, Vincent Damphousse among others.
Hiring someone above them with experience makes sense.

I mentioned this either yesterday or earlier today... I would not be surprised if their ideal candidate is not given the GM position, but they would put someone in the GM spot to learn on the job from the person really in charge.

Ok, but if his name was Mike Richards and is the gm of the flyers echl team, he wouldn’t even be discussed as a candidate. I think that’s where my frustration sets in. I get he has to be French, but to the point that they are looking at echl managers?

I may be wrong but I think Bouchard has basically cut all ties with the habs, not sure if they'd consider him as a candidate but he would think about it for sure if he was offered the position. wasn't aware that Brière is actually involved in management, which is good since hiring a guy just because he played in the NHL would be kinda silly.
