No but he was an assistant for a very successful nhl team atleast.
- cburgess

But he was never in the office, didn't you hear, or he woulda known about the whole Hawks thing.

So what did he actually learn there before becoming GM of the Habs?

Other than if you don't show up for work, you won't get blamed for the mess.

I’m sure he was around enough to see how it all works at the top in the nhl offices. I don’t know, I guess I just want a guy that has built a team before and knows what to do from day 1

well, you won't find a french speaking guy with NHL GM experience. I think we can all agree on that one. that doesn't mean the new guy wouldn't know what to do.

yeah, or even if he wasn't necessarily the guy in charge it would be nice for him to at least have been part of an organization where he was able to learn the ropes and acquire tangible NHL management experience.

Well maybe it’s time to give up on that bs if you want to build a winner here. When was the last captain of the team able to speak French? Why is it such a big deal for the gm and coaches?

Agreed.

And that is likely why the whole Gorton thing might happen, and then slot in the candidate that has the best shot at being a really good GM and learn on the job (with less risk).

perhaps managing a franchise in NHL21 would represent sufficient experience.

well you can talk about it and wish for it all you want, but if those 2 guys are actually hired I will personally start a petition and organize a protest in front of the Bell center to prevent this madness.
- Pat1993

I look forward to seeing you in the news if that happens

while I agree with what you're saying, when the time comes to hire a GM or coach there are usually enough interesting and competent francophone candidates to choose from, it isn't like the habs missed these huge hiring opportunities time after time because of it.
