Leafs are the 1st east team in NHL history, to do the California trip, and win each game by at least 3 goals... never been done before.
There is that. |

Yes, but it doesn't actually count, because Leafs reasons. |

No, and we’d have to give up Holl Kerfoot and maybe 1 more.
I just like the player and if we had room it would be awesome I think.
Holl Ritchie Kerf would probably have to go. |

If I was to temper expectations, I'd say something along the lines of the California teams being relatively weak in comparison to their heyday a decade ago. |

They probably need to move some $ out or move Lilli down when Mrazek and Mik come back. I’d guess a Mik or Engvall sized contract - Canada Cup
Yeah. They can fit them, but Clifford and Semyonov would both go back to the Marlies as would Woll and then Liljegren would have to go. If we did that, everyone fits under the cap and no one is lost to waivers, leaving $80k in space.
Right now, at the very least, it's looking like Dermott is the one who should go. Holl is starting to look more rounded into form and capable of playing his role from last year. Dermott had some good games early, but his game isn't handling the intermittent play too well - looking mediocre at best in his outings of late. If Dermott went and Liljegren replaced him, it would leave us with $717k under the cap (which is still too little to give us true roster flexibility, but it does give us a higher accrual rate which would give us flexibility quickly enough).
The alternative is Engvall or Mikheyev (which would be the 13th forward) - which in the case of Mikheyev leaves you actual flexibility ($862k) or Engvall, who makes less than Dermott and leaves you in the same boat of accrual but no flexibility ($467k).
Depending on how much they need immediate flexibility vs. accrual and how much they value the role and the depth the non-playing player offers will likely determine their next move.
If we lose Engvall, we have Semyonov, Clifford, Steeves, Anderson or Seney who could fill-in in the case of injury. Love him or hate him, Engvall is significantly better than any of that lot right now.
If we lose Dermott, we have Dahlstrom, Biega, Menell or Rubins who could fill-in. I still like Dermott better than any of that crowd.

Yeah, he talks about how it’s important to pair Kampf with someone with strong offensive chops like Kase. I also liked his explanations about how good Kase is. - Canada Cup
Kampf should just take the draw and head for the bench |

Agree, but some nice goals against very good goalies (except Riemer of course) That tip in by Matthews was a beauty, as was the tap in by Kerfoot, The other positive I would say is that with a little added muscle - not backing down from bigger rougher teams like the Cali teams. Leafs appear to be playing with their hair on fire (even Willy)

So you are back to watching games. nice.
But we have seen the leafs look legit the past several seasons as well.
It will be a long wait to see if they can actually do something when it counts.
In the meantime, lets hope they keep playing well. Fun times.
And hopefully some more Jays signings or trades....cant wait for Baseball to start. |

The only weakness is Holl

Let's also bear in mind that there are 65 (frank)ing games left for the Islanders this year. It's a team coached by one of the best coaches in the game who currently is missing his top two defensemen and a score of contributing players.
The Islanders aren't a team that wins by star players, they win by committee and by playing your role - but you still need enough talent to fill those roles. With injuries and COVID, they've been seriously depleted.
With Pelech and Pulock in the lineup, they've been a piddling 5-5-2; without those two they've been 0-5. Varlamov has been terrible to start the year, but so have young players like Barzal and Beauvillier.
There's no denying that they have some bad contracts doled out with too much term to aging players, but ringing the death knell on them may be premature.
There is so much time left for Roger to continue being wrong. - Monkeypunk

I agree, Holl should be moved if possible. Having him in the lineup and sending Liljegren down to the AHL make little sense. Only delays the developement of one of the better young D-men in the system. The bruiser is likely to be a TDL acquisition.
