ya... but the Leafs are from the "weak North division" from last year.... with other weak Canadian teams... all of whom will be over their heads when they have to play the American based teams this season.

clearly teams like Edmonton, Toronto, Calgary can't complete with the rest of the NHL...

and one of the weakest of the weak Canadian teams went the Cup final last year.

where are the Canadian teams in the standings this year?

- BorjeFan4Ever

Well three of the teams are part in the top 5 worse teams in the league.
One is tied with four other teams for 12th in the league.
And two are top 5 in the league
One is 6th or 7th.
Not bad.
In a normal year, the Habs would not have made the playoffs last year.
The flames should have made it, had they not choked and the leafs would have gotten past the 1st round.

He'll be bought out by the 24-25 season
- dmnted

Which makes it a horrible deal. He's had a really, really rough start to this season.

I was so right about the Islanders!
- RogerRoeper

No you werent.
You've predicted their demise for 4 years. Been wrong every year.
This year, they were on the road for 13 straight games, have had 6 -7 players missing due to covid and are finally not playing well. And this is what you gloat about?

Dont get me wrong, F the Islanders and their fans. But gimme a break

It's INSANE to give Casey Cizikas 6 years at age 31 to play 12 minutes a night. And people say "It's "Only" 2.5 per...Uh, you female dog about Mitch marner getting 1.5 too much non stop...

And you add Palmieri, Martin, JGP, Lee, Nelson. They are only going to get worse.

- RogerRoeper

No one cares about Islander in here, go to the islanders or Rangers thread.
LOL

The Habs glory run is an indictment on the league more than it is a positive observation about the Habs.
- Aetherial

I just glanced at the Habs Capfriendly page... they have the corpse of Shea Weber signed for another 4 years....

Let's also bear in mind that there are 65 (frank)ing games left for the Islanders this year. It's a team coached by one of the best coaches in the game who currently is missing his top two defensemen and a score of contributing players.

The Islanders aren't a team that wins by star players, they win by committee and by playing your role - but you still need enough talent to fill those roles. With injuries and COVID, they've been seriously depleted.

With Pelech and Pulock in the lineup, they've been a piddling 5-5-2; without those two they've been 0-5. Varlamov has been terrible to start the year, but so have young players like Barzal and Beauvillier.

There's no denying that they have some bad contracts doled out with too much term to aging players, but ringing the death knell on them may be premature.

There is so much time left for Roger to continue being wrong.

Interesting stuff that guy has
- Zezel

Yeah, he talks about how it’s important to pair Kampf with someone with strong offensive chops like Kase. I also liked his explanations about how good Kase is.

Scabeh tears are sugar. He doesn’t come in to troll. He stays. Stop with the cancelling and ostracizing.

They probably need to move some $ out or move Lilli down when Mrazek and Mik come back. I’d guess a Mik or Engvall sized contract

Would be nice but unrealistic. First even though Benning is an imbecile, he could get more for Miller from another team. Second this deal would be a cap crusher for the Leafs. While Holl and Kerfoot make $5.5 M total together - that's two roster spots. So in essence, you would be adding $5.25 plus at least another minimum wage defender at $700K which would be $6M coming back. Sounds like only a little, but with the Rielly deal, Leafs need to shed salary not add.

Kase has been very good. If he has a reasonably good year, $5M x 7 to the Oilers?
