Three rounds of luck. Makes sense. - CaptainClutch19
Goalie standing on his head can take even a bad team further than expected.
You saying JT getting knocked out of the series by a strange series of events wasn't lucky for the Habs?

Look at most teams over the years that make unexpected cup runs. Usually a lot of luck involved and goaltending that is unsustainable over a long period. Then the dumb execs think their team is close and makes a bunch of stupid mistakes. Happens over and over again. |

Timmins is out ... FINALLY !!!
Drafting has been abysmal under this guy's leadership. |

Should they have kept Mellanby or did he save embarrassment? |

Are the Montreal sources who didn't see this coming the same ones that said Tarasenko and Dubnyk were coming to town? |

I think drafting Logan Mailloux sealed the deal for Bergevin. Timmons is collateral damage. Although I admire the fortitude to take the risk to draft the kid, ultimately Molson and the Habs fan base were not on board. The fact that the team is playing as poorly as they are just made the decision easier. If your not planning on extending him, he should have no hand in shaping the future. I'll say this for Bergevin. He had zero fear pulling the trigger on a big deal. That was awesome and will be missed. Wish there were more GM's out there with the cajones to do the same. |

Vice President of hockey op's. He won't need it. He'll have no problem finding a bilingual hockey man. The guy in Tampa is doing alright. |

I’m wondering if this bumps up their desperation score? Do they make it into the top 10 now?? Seems pretty desperate to fire your GM and head scout a couple months into the season. |

Dallas is way more desperate than the Habs. Ranked 3rd. Keep your eyes on them... |

Didn't Gorton get fired by the RAngers because the team was absolutely destroyed by Tom Wilson and the Caps last year and they had no one on the team willing/able to defend the players on the ice...they had a bunch of finesse guys....Dolan the Rangers owner went ballistic and fired everyone the next day. |

That’s not what Ek said…
“Molson’s way of turning upo the heat on Gorton and maybe forcing him to move on in light of the terrible start the Habs are currently experiencing.”
Makes even less sense. - TurdFergeson
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who saw that. I re-read it a few times thinking I missed something, but nope. Just classic Eklund word garbage. I swear I get dumber by osmosis when I try to read this hastily slapped together nonsense. Do better. |

In Ek's defense, it's been a busy week calculating the HBDQ scores for all the teams and then doing a write-up on the top 10. I come here for inside info , not grammar school. |

For the people saying last years run to the finals was fluke and this year is more real. You are comparing apples and oranges. They lost their #1 defenceman, their #1 goalie and #1 center. Along with having their third best defenceman hurt and the guy that should be #1 defenceman this year having a bad year. Take those players from any contender and they will fail. Should I mention replacing a sound two way player Tatar with a one dimensional Hoffman was also a back slide. NOT to say I'm one bit sad to see Bergeron go, he didn't build a team he acquired players. - eagleputter
This. Exactly this. |

The Habs lost an aging D man, a goalie with steadily declining save % and a checking Centre. They never had a real #1 centre.
The last time the Habs legitimately made the playoffs was five years ago. Starting with the Tavares injury, they rode luck all the way to the finals. They are exactly what they are. They are the same team 90% of Hab fans thought of them when they were 3-1 down to the Leafs. Not good enough. Top players are good not great. |
