Answer this through someone else....
Who is amongst this plethora of depth you speak of? - konalover711
The mix of players argument isn't bad but they honestly have some of the worst depth in the league. They're currently playing 4 AHL players that really shouldn't be playing NHL games regularly. The Flyers were always super solid down the middle and most teams build and draft that way in the modern cap era; down the middle and from the backend. The Flyers were doing that but haven't been able to recoup their losses. Patrick was supposed to be their franchise pivot moving forward. He's gone and with no replacement. They overpaid for Hayes - hopefully he comes back and is effective through the rest of his contract, I forsee a buyout. Giroux once a pivot is now mostly a winger/faceoff man. |

I’d like to see them swap Giroux and Farabee in the lineup.
I also wouldn’t mind Torts coming in to coach. |

Patrick being a bust really was a setback to how everything was to play with Hayes signing.
Frost also not blossoming to date also hurts.
I think the plan was Hayes as a 4c when SC /NP/MF as they improved then he became a trade deadline dangle if needed.

Who are the 4 AHL players? Seeler is playing due to the injury to Ellis. I'm actually glad that Thompson is out of the lineup and a younger player is playing. |

The issue is again not depth. They have depth. It's the mix of players that is the issue. How many legitimate playmakers and play drivers does this team have? Giroux. Konecny when he is on can but not consistent. Couturier can control possession and normally put up points. That's about it right now. They don't have a defense that is strong in play driving. They don't have that elite attacking defenseman that top teams have. They looked at last year and saw certain things. This is a classic case of overcorrection. Despite claims that they do, this team does not defend well. Defending well in today's NHL is doing what it takes to defend less. Defending is losing hockey. Atkinson is a nice player but the loss of the qualities that Voracek brought was not replaced. Contrary to popular opinion, a physically aggressive defenseman in Ristolainen was not what was needed. You need a defenseman who can win board battles and play soundly in his own end but your top 4 needs to play with speed and move the puck quickly and attack in the offensive end. Ellis is pretty good player but he actually has to be able to play. - MJL
It’s a lot of things a depth, by now they should be able to bring up quality 4th liners or 3rd pair, they can’t. Will there be some coming? I don’t know, why I asked bill about Attard, St Ivy and other prospects, I have to believe their is some depth that might be coming in the next 12-24 months. A right handed 3rd pair D, 3rd and 4th line help with more speed and skill , but it’s only hope right now and has been for a while

Pretty dumb play call at the end of half if you ask me. But yeah, Hurts hasn't looked good today. |

Ok the issue is not the number of players in the system it's the quality of those players...that's what depth means players available who can step in and contribute when needed |

Depth is never endless. They're down two centers and Frost isn't where he would've been due to missing an entire season. I think you have somewhat of a point but the Flyers have been having this issue forever. Hextall was trying to correct that but he was fired.

Endless?
Just cause we have a minor league team does not mean depth is endless. It's about quality of depth.
The definition of depth is a player that has a chance at becoming or being a NHL ready player, not just playing in the A.
Again who are these depth players you're speaking of.

When your third line is making 13 million….you expect to have good depth. When almost 1/4 way in they’ve scored 4 goals combined….the argument for depth goes out the window. |

I'm still waiting for MJLMOTHU (master of the hockey universe) to answer my simple question.
He says we have depth.... Who?
Never endless depth is some other team not this team who has an anchor of Nate holding down the 4th line, now thats depth. Laughable. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 11/28/21 @ NJ; Phantoms Update - bmeltzer
Interesting fun fact
As of noon today the Seattle Kraken are averaging more goals (2.76) a game than the Philadelphia Flyers (2.47).
I remember people asking what the hell they were doing with their expansion draft strategy -- good times |

If you think Fletch signed hayes to a 7 M per year deal to be the 4th line center, you should be in the process of a hunger-strike outside of Fletcher's office for the sheer incompetence of it |
