Iceberg, right ahead!!!
Unfortunately, this team has the feeling of a sinking ship. Very frustrating to be a Flyers fan right now. Team hasn't made it past the second round since 2010. |

You hit it on the head Bill. It’s just not enough to have a good shift here and there. The consistency issues always plague mediocre teams….unfortunately that’s what the Flyers have been for close to a decade now. |

Ellis...Ellis..Ellis...all Flyers problems are caused by 1 good, not great defenseman being out. Please let's not go there. They cant score |

Because they don't have the horses. No superstar players, no depth, and no potential stars in the minors. Goaltending has been keeping this team alive and that's bottomed out. The Flyers should seriously consider just tanking. I know that's not a certainty to nab the 1st overall pick but it'll be better than drafting in the middle of the 1st. Flyers are starved for a star. |

This organization is out of excuses. Can see it already this season of failure will be blamed on the injuries, especially Ellis. Bill is setting it up nicely.
Stop with the competitiveness and moxey form Seeler. He has no fn business being in an everyday NHL lineup. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
Yandle is fn toast and anyone who follows hockey even a little knew this coming into the season.

The true legacy of captain claude. Put up points but mediocrity for a decade |

funny as hell this will be the mantra all year. What a joke and not one beat writer or anyone who covers the flyers will call them out on it.

Bill, I agree with pretty much all you said with the exception of this statement. "Noticeably, the much-improved defensive structure the team showed early on -- which was hardly mentioned and erroneously chalked up by some entirely to the goaltending". With all disrespect, it can't be said about a team that was bleeding scoring chances all season and among the bottom in SCA rate. Now some of this can certainly be blamed on the Flyers lack of ability overall as a team to being able to drive play and have extended attack time. After all, the more time you spend in your own end, the more chances you will give up. Defending in the NHL does not have the same definition as it used to have. If you're bleeding chances, you simply are not defending well. Same on the PK. At the bottom of the league in suppressing high danger chances. The PK percentage is all about the goaltending. Same at 5 on 5. What we're seeing now was all but inevitable. It was predictable. Adding Ellis would help some but not likely to have a significant effect if the rest of the team doesn't get it's act together. |

No one in management should be safe. The Flyers are in the same spot in the standings they were in 2018 when Hextall got fired. |

Exactly, like Ellis has anything to do with the total lack of compete this team has. Its ridiculous and totally unacceptable. Coaching should have been changed after the florida trip.

Ellis will certainly help the possession numbers. Consequently, results will skew a bit more in our direction.
But look at the 'heat map' of shots Black Hand posted yesterday. Once the puck is in the zone more often due to Ellis, are our forwards going to get better quality shots? I don't see it. |

Exactly. That’s what happens when your gm drafts the same type of player over & over. Skilled but small. Too many forwards who are unable to win battles against bigger opponents.
G, TK, Bee, Frost this year adding Atkinson. Almost half of your forwards are little nerds. Mainly a Hextall problem. Not setting organization up for success & drafting for need |

Right now, most Flyers breakout attempts are a mess. There's a lot of standing around,
this in a nutshell. And its not just on breakouts, it is also on the PP. |

In fairness he did trade up to draft 6'6" Ratcliffe.

Your spot on…there are no superstars, no Stars (although I hope for Hart). They have some solid players, but the supposed team strength of forward depth goes out the window when you third line making 13 million combined has all of 5 goals…1/4 way into the season….that’s awful.
Sad but when you look at th prospect pool, there are is potential, but nothing that screams “difference maker”. |

I thought that was a good move, but it seems like Ratcliffe was just bullying smaller players in juniors and now that he is playing against men, he hasn't been able to adjust to the fact that he cant bully smaller players any more.

Ya, being 6'6 in Jr is a huge advantage. Scored 50 his last year, and hasnt made even a blip of an impact in the AHL. |

You mean like runts that get pushed around and do nothing: the Barzal,Point, Aho, Marner, Suzuki type of guys?

Wow. Just a few weeks ago you were saying there are "nice pieces to build around."
I am glad you are coming around to see this obvious truth, but what changed?

Practice time can’t be an excuse this year. I think it’s been years and we continue to hear the same thing.
We need to be better. We can be better it starts with me. It’s frustrating right now that’s for sure. Cones I’m down to all of us playing as a group….,,,, have to be ready to play a full 60.
Same statements at least 8 years in a row now. They are right though. It is frustrating. |
