Listen I know the site is about fantasizing lol but once the season starts I generally cheer for the team. Unless it’s minor tweaks to make room for the appropriate number of players. The leafs can’t spend more in the top 6 without harming the team, and you’ll never convince me otherwise. They’re first overall and scoring is not what they need. A little more stable defensively and that’s about it.
As for Mrazek they’re going to have to dump him in order to be able to afford resigning Campbell if soup keeps playing like this. And with his massive injury history good luck finding a taker of his entire contract unless the leafs essentially give him away. - Dozzer
It's early days and it's fun to speculate. If the Leafs can add JT Miller and somehow make it all work out and all they lose from a roster standpoint is Kerfoot, I think you do it... but, admittedly, I think it may be a bridge too far in terms of assets.
The Leafs have allowed 46 goals in 23 games so far this season. I think that's very likely unsustainable but team D should not be as much of a concern at this point. I maintain that 5v5 and PP scoring is what this team may need down the road.
Boston made a big play to add a Top 6 player in Taylor Hall last year so I don't see how it's unreasonable that the Leafs would make a similar move. But sure, if they keep playing at the clip they are right now then only minor deck chair swapping might be in order. Who the (frank) knows?
But yeah, Mrazek is a piece likely goes (in the off-season) if Campbell keeps up his monster numbers. Why have a 3.8M backup if you now have a Vezina quality #1 starter? |

He has proved his value. Proof-his market in FA last summer.
He has played 1.5 games he has not lost all his value or any of his value. If you want to value players off of 1.5 games you can, but I don't. - Santo_44
The guy has been injury prone for two straight years now. Yeah… if I was another GM I wouldn’t touch him whatsoever.
However to be clear please remember I doubt the leafs do anything but move someone like Mikheyev in order to make enough room for 13 forwards and 7 d until the off-season. So hopefully Mrazek can get 25 games in and play them well so at least another team is interested in him or resigning Campbell will be next to impossible when guys like Sandin, Liljegren, Engvall, Kase, and maybe even Clifford need new contracts as well. |

It's also hard to see Kase resigning unless he takes a pay cut to stay with his buddy Kampf. That Kampf signing is looking pretty good about now.
Something we haven't talked about much is how good Kerfoot has been as a replacement for Hyman in the top six. Kerfoot 14 points +10, Hyman 15 points -3
I like Hyman, but Kase's points will easily replace Kerfoot's production on the third line last year and he's making $4M less than Hyman. - winsix
I’m totally pro Kerfoot and will always want him kept around tbh. I’m hoping at the end of next season he won’t be looking for a big raise so the leafs can keep him |

campbell was injury prone last season.
He has had a neck injury from Clifford ironically, a thumb injury and now this...which again Campbell dealt with the same injury and timeline.
His market value was around 3.8M last summer...meaning GMs were willing to sign him for around that number.
Thats not changing over a groin injury. What goalie hasn't dealt with a groin injury? |

Its also funny how everyone forgets that Campbell hurt is groin TWICE last season
But now Mrazek's career is in shambles? No. He is a 3.8M goalie and if they trade him there will be a market for him. Why? Because there was 1.5 games ago. |

Keep hoping the leafs land Miller but promise not to openly complain when they don’t ok? Lol
And don’t ever ask me to like the idea of moving Kerfoot because he’s one of the most variably talented players on the entire team. I personally hope he sticks to his current salary roughly and resigns for another 3 or 4 years after next year tbh.

Signing Kase will be a priority. He’ll be here ahead of a lot of guys including Kerfoot. That third line works because of the two Czech mates |

A 3.8 million dollar goalie who got a whole 12 games in last year
It was a dumb signing imo, but I realize they did it because they weren’t sure if Campbell could handle being a full time starter. |

GMs didnt seem to be as bothered as you are about this since his market was at 3.8M.
The dude had thumb surgery. Bad luck for him but who cares now it's healed. |

As I said, hope he gets enough games in so the leafs can move him in the off-season to resign Campbell.
Man oh man do you ever like to argue with my POV… if they want to keep Campbell they’ll have to drop this guy |

A few quick points here:
1. I'm NOT in a rush to make a change to this lineup. I mentioned it several comments back that any speculation from my part is further down the line (e.g. TDL).
2. The Canucks are a dumpster fire team that Miller is currently leading in points. Does Kerfoot score at the same pace on the Canucks? Now flip the script: does JT Miller improve on his point totals playing with the Core 4?
3. I'm not sure how the Bolts trading JT Miller (25 at the time) is a knock against him and not Tampa deciding that they had to make room to re-sign Vasiliveskiy that summer and he was bouncing around the 2nd/3rd line at the time. I also take exception to inferring that Miller may be a main contributor to the dumpster that is now Vancouver. You may want to check out their feckless GM who admitted he had no idea wtf was wrong with the team. But yeah, I'm sure it's largely on Miller's shoulders.
Suffice it to say, this is all much ado about nothing. Getting piled on here for something I actually admitted was "probably too costly" has been amusing. - mjones242

Dubas made a error I agree, the guy has never been any good. Not sure how he got 3.8.
He hasn’t had a good season since 15-16
Can’t win ‘em all I guess.

Evander Kane proved his worth to get his contract too, ridiculous to suggest that just because he had interest on the FA market there's zero chance of regression off of that interest.
He comes with term, if he can't stay healthy that's a big problem for someone interested in him. Is he worthless? Probably not. But you can bet your ass if this goes on, there's going to be a number of teams who spoke with him last summer and are now going whew... Dodged that bullet. |

Miller plays 22 minutes / game, including getting 1st line power play time in Vancouver and has 19 points in 22 games - 7 of those on the power play.
Kerfoot is playing 15 minutes / game and doesn't get power play time. Kerfoot has 14 points in 23 games - all of those at even strength. So he's playing with NOT the top pair, getting 7 minutes less / game and is outproducing Miller and is making $1.75m less than Miller.
Why are you in such a rush to make a trade to change a team that's lost twice in 16 games?
Miller is such a difference maker that after he was traded for magic beans, his former team won two stanley cups and his new team started digging troughs in the league's basement!
Not that I don't like Miller - he's fine, but he's not a magical difference maker, and we already have Kerfoot who is doing just fine for a lot less money. - Monkeypunk
Agree completely. Kerfoot has been part of many proposed trades on this blog. He was one of the best Leafs in that miserable playoff series last year. He works hard, hits, can play PP or PK and can finish. As Dozzer has pointed out one of the most versatile players on the Leafs - if not the League. He the Ben Zobrist of hockey. Remember that guy?

Lol like I said, hoping when he comes back he can get 20-25 games in (only 59 to go so it won’t be much more than that), plays well, so the leafs can sell him off rather cheap to get another team to take on his full contract.
Hopefully he plays decently or fans, media, maybe even management might be starting to think that he needs to be dumped off somewhere and somehow and take the risk of rolling with Woll as the backup. As I said I hope Mrazek plays decent enough not to make the team consider this. |

Not a bad deal for Seattle, its a great city as well. Surprised he got less that $25M AAV Jays get Seattle's 3rd best pick in the draft.
