Evander Kane proved his worth to get his contract too, ridiculous to suggest that just because he had interest on the FA market there's zero chance of regression off of that interest.
He comes with term, if he can't stay healthy that's a big problem for someone interested in him. Is he worthless? Probably not. But you can bet your ass if this goes on, there's going to be a number of teams who spoke with him last summer and are now going whew... Dodged that bullet. - joel878
This is a poor example and it's a bit lazy to formulate an argument. Kane's UFA period never actually happened - he was traded from Buffalo and resigned with San Jose. But teams were interested in him - until this past season when he decided to crap on everything everywhere. No one wants to bring a guy into the locker room who is basically a sluicing colostomy bag of issues.
I'd actually think Santo's point is somewhat legitimate. Mrazek, just 4 months ago, was being courted by numerous teams in free agency - because he has had a number of decent seasons. His injury issues were known at that time just as well as they are now. Him encountering an issue doesn't change the fact that he is a decent backup goalie capable of playing 40 games / season at the NHL level and he has proven this on a number of occasions.
Noting that his trade value was never that elite anyway, so it's not like it has a lofty perch to fall from. He's really not much better in a trade conversation than a Reimer or a Bernier, but his trade value is unlikely affected by being injured this season.

I don’t mind moving any of those guys or doing something like that in the summer. But it gets too complicated at the TDL and I don’t think he’s a big enough upgrade. He’s not that good. |

Depth D-man with some snarl and bite is about as much as I think they will do. |

I’m totally pro Kerfoot and will always want him kept around tbh. I’m hoping at the end of next season he won’t be looking for a big raise so the leafs can keep him - Dozzer
Agreed. Perfect type of player for any team. He needs to stay. Works his ass off and is the most versatile and useful player on the team.
I like JT Miller too, but wouldn't want to lose Kerfoot for him.
Add JT some how, hell ya, but I would not want to lose anyone for him except Engvall, Micheyev or one of Dermott/Holl.
....maybe Ritchie but I like him lately, still think there is more to come from him.
Depth on D is probably needed more than anything. |

Hmmmm same coin as Gausman. Does that mean Jays preferred Gausman over Ray? Interesting ....

Ray or Gausman + pick
via GIPHY - senstroll
Ray clearly picked Seattle as a city to live in over Toronto. He could have got more money elsewhere, I'm reasonably sure of that. Toronto signed their second choice when Ray let them know about his intentions to sign with Seattle. Classy move on his part IMO.

Maybe like a EE thing, Ray/rays agent were trying to squeeze more...(25mil rumor)
jays decided to shift to Gausman instead...word was also Ray was going to wait it out
so maybe they didnt want to risk missing out, for a very similar pitcher plus a pick..

If they were after Gausman for a while and the choice was him and the pick, it makes sense from their perspective. |

Dont think so.
Ray was gonna wait until post dec 1st to sign but the market was going dry.
It appears ray overplayed his hand and the jays simply weren't going to wait for him.
Smart move by the jays |
