Dont think so.
Ray was gonna wait until post dec 1st to sign but the market was going dry.
It appears ray overplayed his hand and the jays simply weren't going to wait for him.
Smart move by the jays - Fakepartofme

Maybe like a EE thing, Ray/rays agent were trying to squeeze more...(25mil rumor)
jays decided to shift to Gausman instead...word was also Ray was going to wait it out
so maybe they didnt want to risk missing out, for a very similar pitcher plus a pick.. - senstroll
This seems to be the case. |

Agreed. Perfect type of player for any team. He needs to stay. Works his ass off and is the most versatile and useful player on the team.
I like JT Miller too, but wouldn't want to lose Kerfoot for him.
Add JT some how, hell ya, but I would not want to lose anyone for him except Engvall, Micheyev or one of Dermott/Holl.
....maybe Ritchie but I like him lately, still think there is more to come from him.
Depth on D is probably needed more than anything. - underhill14
Yeah I’m not saying I don't like JT Miller it’s just that the leafs can’t truly spend more on top 6 forwards than they already are without hurting the depth of two way players and the defence. Not to mention they have quite a few resigning to do this summer as well. |

We'll find out at some point. Sounded like Ray was enjoying being courted and he liked Seattle alot. Can't understand the numbers on that Seager deal at all.

MacKinnon rushes back, gets reinjured on a clean hit by Muzzin. Kadri has a hearing and gets 8 games. |

Keep hoping the leafs land Miller but promise not to openly complain when they don’t ok? Lol
And don’t ever ask me to like the idea of moving Kerfoot because he’s one of the most variably talented players on the entire team. I personally hope he sticks to his current salary roughly and resigns for another 3 or 4 years after next year tbh. - Dozzer
As long as you can promise not to complain when Kerfoot is eventually jettisoned into the sun.
I think you've made it clear that he's some sort of versatile unicorn but, I believe, a guy like JT Miller is better than Kerf in every possible way, is just as versatile, and is only 2M more -- which can be absorbed by Kessel's 1.2M + 1M cap increase.
Trade away Mrazek and you have 3.8M to add to Jack's 1.65 salary when you re-sign him.
The math works and isn't merely an absurd "fantasy" scenario. That's all I'm saying, dude. |

Its also funny how everyone forgets that Campbell hurt is groin TWICE last season
But now Mrazek's career is in shambles? No. He is a 3.8M goalie and if they trade him there will be a market for him. Why? Because there was 1.5 games ago. - Santo_44
Exactly right. Injuries happen but Mrazek's resume speaks for itself and the market decided that 3.8M was the right price.
Is there anyone who thinks Joseph Woll is suddenly better than Mrazek because of his recent 3 game run? The Leafs are playing very disciplined defensive hockey and Mrazek will likely benefit from that big time.
It was an intriguing play by Dubas this off-season to sign the guy. We didn't know if Campbell was for real and so he ensured that there was another legit starter there to challenge for the role this season and beyond. |

*gently suggests adding $5.25M guy for extra year might not be a great idea - Canada Cup
*gently suggests 5.7M can be achieved from:
- dumping Kerfoot (3.5M)
- Kessel's salary no longer on the books (1.2M)
- increase in cap ceiling (1M) to make up the difference.
This pays for JT Miller. |

Gently reminded that
Campbell gets a significant raise lets say its $4M
Rielly going from $5M to $7.5M
Kase UFA - needs to be re-signed (unlikely) or replaced
Sandin and Liljegren both RFA next year and will need to get raises |

Can't see Muzzin catching him right now. Maybe MacKinnon skates into him?
Kadri still gets the 8 games, though. |
