Gently reminded that

Campbell gets a significant raise lets say its $4M
Rielly going from $5M to $7.5M
Kase UFA - needs to be re-signed (unlikely) or replaced
Sandin and Liljegren both RFA next year and will need to get raises

- winsix

Kase is not a UFA, he is an RFA.

Kessel's 1.25M comes off the books.

Cap is projected to raise 1M.

Lilejrgen is not guaranteed a raise. A Mete/Dermott at his age is far more likely(800K-900K)

If Campbell gets a significant raise it means he is a star starter and Mrazeks 3.8M isnt needed.

I'm glad Marchand got suspended because slewfoots are garbage, but where's the NHL's consistency?

Subban slewfoots a guy literally every week and he got 2 fines.

Mrazek’s stats aren’t really that good for a few years except 12 games last year
- Garnie

I'm guessing that Leafs get him back into the lineup as soon as possible and trade his ass either at the TDL or in this offseason. His salary is a problem, especially with Woll looking not bad as a back up. Leafs need to quit farting around and sign Campbell.

Of course MacKinnon is gonna come back for the game against the Leafs.
- GreatGigInTheSky

The Avs couldn’t win a game until he got hurt so maybe his return will help us.

Not even remotely the same thing

Its been 1.5 games. GMs aren't that dumb.

- Santo_44

It hasn't been 1.5 games, it's been over a quarter of the season and he's only been capable of playing 1.5 games. That's the issue genius.

Off-season makes sense. I doubt that Woll gets more than 2 or 3 more starts unless there’s another injury. It would be crazy to move Mrazek and take a chance on a backup with 5 or 6 games unless Mrazek plays badly between his return and the TDL. Move him in the summer if Woll has a good year with the Marlies.

This is a poor example and it's a bit lazy to formulate an argument. Kane's UFA period never actually happened - he was traded from Buffalo and resigned with San Jose. But teams were interested in him - until this past season when he decided to crap on everything everywhere. No one wants to bring a guy into the locker room who is basically a sluicing colostomy bag of issues.

I'd actually think Santo's point is somewhat legitimate. Mrazek, just 4 months ago, was being courted by numerous teams in free agency - because he has had a number of decent seasons. His injury issues were known at that time just as well as they are now. Him encountering an issue doesn't change the fact that he is a decent backup goalie capable of playing 40 games / season at the NHL level and he has proven this on a number of occasions.

Noting that his trade value was never that elite anyway, so it's not like it has a lofty perch to fall from. He's really not much better in a trade conversation than a Reimer or a Bernier, but his trade value is unlikely affected by being injured this season.

- Monkeypunk

I could literally have picked any player who's signed a free agency contract and had good odds of proving that their value changed over the course of their contract. That was the point, and it going straight directly over your head does not make it lazy.

His trade value is affected if he cannot play those 40 games you're talking about. Teams are not going to pay what they would have 4 months ago for a player who's only been able to play a game and a half, especially when he comes with term. Two more years at 3.8 million for a guy who cannot fix your problems if he cannot play? Yeah you bet.

Yeah because he is injured...not because of in ice performance.

Injuries happen.

Exactly right. Injuries happen but Mrazek's resume speaks for itself and the market decided that 3.8M was the right price.

Is there anyone who thinks Joseph Woll is suddenly better than Mrazek because of his recent 3 game run? The Leafs are playing very disciplined defensive hockey and Mrazek will likely benefit from that big time.

It was an intriguing play by Dubas this off-season to sign the guy. We didn't know if Campbell was for real and so he ensured that there was another legit starter there to challenge for the role this season and beyond.

- mjones242

Exactly.

(frank)ing nuts that a guy can have a groin injury and lose all his value as an NHLer in 2 months because of it.

VGK traded for Echiel when he is having a potentially career ending surgery.

Mrazek has a (frank)ing groin injury. Every goalie gas had one at some point in their life.

He makes 3.8 million dollars a year for the next 2 years. No team is going to be interested in taking on that burden if he cannot play.

You come on here daily and tell everyone they're wrong but you're 4 months removed from saying Kuemper could be had with salary retained for Kerfoot. You can blowhard as loud as you want, it doesn't make you right.

Its a groin injury dude.

Kuemper was traded for picks and prospects. Who knows what Kerfoot value was at that point but it was very well possible they could have made the 1 for 1. They went the picks route. Who cares.

You're comparing him to a formal second overall pick potential franchise player? Hmmm yeah I'm pretty sure every team in the league is willing to take more risks for Eichel than they would for Mrazek. Go take your medication.

Yeah, a first and a prospect with no money retained. You have no idea what you're talking about. Congrats on officially taking over the Max role on this forum.

Yeah dude I don't pretend to know values of players to an exact science.

Go back to that time and read it. I suggested it as a possible trade and that's all I suggested it as.

You are just being a Richard right now. Try to be a better person.

His glasses are stupid.

You can't have any defense, depth fowards or goaltending if you have 40 million in four elite forwards. It's a scientifically proven fact.
