I saw a perfect example of this last night. The Pens/Flames game was on NHL Network. I noticed how hard the Pens work on what seems like every single shift. They have been getting stellar goaltending and got it again last night, but the compete level stands out compared to a certain other team. I mean, the Flyers are talking about injuries? Look at what the Pens have dealt with and yet the Flyers are still looking up in the standings at them. I think this is why Giroux takes a lot of shyte. It seems since he has been captain this team simply doesn't have the compete level that it needs to be successful.

i dont think sully or crosby would tolerate lack of effort, hence kessel. Getting rid of a 30 goal scorer because he doesnt put in the effort. But its very concerning. IT happens way too much

I know that is what we are watching the players do, but are you certain the players are being told to do this?

This is the dump % under Hak/Gordo and after Vigneault took over -- basically the same core of players between the two years.

So what/who do you think accounts for the difference?

He acted boldly last off-season and yet here we are, again

They acted mostly stupid and somewhat desperate IMO. Paid a ransom for Ristolainen. Atkison has sniping ability but I'd rather have Voracek over him. Who knows how the Ellis trade is going to look - I think we need to reassess whatever Patrick turns into and if Myers can be a steady 3-4 defenseman in this league. Ellis track record of injuries and the current one aren't looking too good though. I'd rather have Gostisbehere than Yandle.

i was done with Jake, saw him loafing for years, and was totally done with him, wish we traded him a year sooner.

Happy to get an injured ellis over wasting ice time on patrick and myers. So im fine with those trades too.

i think i was one of the few that liked ghost. I think his good outweighed his bad

So what exactly was the point of this presser?? I mean, did I miss something? He held a presser to tell us what every Tom, Richard and Harry already know. And I would disagree with his assessment that they played well the first 10 games. The goalies saved their arses the first 10 games. They have played TWO complete games to date. That was the home game against the Kraken and the road game against the Caps. That's it!! Flush the rest of the games down the toily! Really a shame that this team has no one on the Phantoms ready to come up cause this would be a perfect time to bench a few of the underperforming vets (JVR comes to mind)!! What's he gonna say after tomorrow night's debacle. Ed Snider would have already turned over every chair in the locker room!! Thanks!

I just read Fletcher's transcript. It was an exercise in blowing smoke up our you know what. It's either that or he is completely disconnected from reality.

Going back to your Richards/Carter comment. While it was true that they probably took nights off that changed when they got Pronger. I really think he was the defacto captain during their 2010 Cup run. He simply wouldn't tolerate slackers from what I understand. Kind of like Weber and Corry Perry last year for the Habs. Look at the hapless Habs without that leadership. They went from competing in the Finals to bottom feeders real quick without that leadership.

yup, agreed. I think Mckinnon is similar, supposedly he stops and yells during practice when a pass isnt on his stick. Some guys are saying, hey, we arent as good as you and cant make every pass tape to tape. lol.
So hopefully someone up and coming will have some good leadership qualities. I think it could be Attard and Wade. Because i dont see it with any of our current guys. Maybe Ellis.

For now yes, but especially when players come back, if this continues to trend in the wrong direction and Fletcher sees that the players no longer believe, AV will be canned. Fletcher said today the team was upbeat, had a good practice and believes everyone still believes in the system and in what they are doing. That means replacing AV is not an option at this time.
- jd250

Not that does not mean that replacing AV is not an option right now. Of course it is an option. Fletcher may not take that option but he should. If anyone thinks that this is just about missing two players, they're crazy.

It's scary really! This organization has become a rudderless ship lost in the north atlantic. Now it's just a matter of time until they hit that iceberg.

The numbers you posted here tell me Fletcher is SPOT ON! The team's PP has stunk since 2014-2015. You see, the way it works is, when the PP is over about 22%, then its a good PP. When its closer to 19%, its not a good PP.
- jd250

That's not correct. 18-20% is a solid PP.

That was my point exactly. In my league, we don't even have a real coach, and I often play defense for a spell. I look where my options are, sometimes you have teammates open up the boards, sometimes open in the center, sometimes you have no teammate open so you either skate or if no ice is available, make a safe play and bang the puck out. I don't need a coach to tell me this, I just know how to play hockey. I don't even think about it in fact when I play.
- jd250

The Flyers and the NHL is not your league. Maybe in your league you just wing it but in the NHL they play a structured game. It's very easy to watch the Flyers play. Watch how the opposition structures their forecheck to know what the Flyers breakout strategy is. It's poorly designed and easy to defend.
Not only that but you're ridiculously insinuating that NHL pro's don't know how to play hockey like you do.

ya, agreed. Homer knew he wasnt up forthe rebuild, thats why he stepped away 7-8 years ago. And we are in the same rudderless spot. Crazy not much has happened or changed

lol

Take a look here:

One team over 20 percent -- and it is closer to 19% than 22

Remember the impact Jagr had in his one year here. Same thing. They saw the time he put in.

Big buff was the same.
