If they decide to fire AV I am fine with that. I just do not want Yeo or Therrein as the lead dog for more than a day or two. Firing AV and turning it over to one of those stooges is a lateral move at best.

Who should they hire? At this point, I do not know. I think Torts would be fun. Not sure he is the right guy though. Sure seems like he would demand better effort though.

Just not aware of all the options. I think Tortorella would drastically improve this teams play in their own end.

That's true, but it's a rarity that it actually plays out that way. The NHL is a win now league and most organizations don't have the patience to groom coaches. They want that instant fix from a coach with a track record unfortunately. Look no further than your team with Gallant.
- Phillywhiteout

You groom coaches in assistant coaching positions or in the AHL.

Bring on Torts!! If nothing else he would be entertaining!! Of course, he might bench the entire team after 2 games when he sees their work ethic.

The Ratcliffes, rubstov and leberges are killing our AHL team. Its one thing for players to not make the NHL, but high picks being below average ahl players are totally killing our farm team. Even guys like bunnaman who we call up occasionally only has 2 points in 16 games. Poor drafting will do this. Hopefully in a couple years we have some better players on there.
- bradster

It’s odd…I watched a couple games early and thought Ratcliffe looked good…reminded me of at Tage Thompson. He was on their PP, was moving really well. Now he’s a spare part.
This is where I think the Flyers haves failed the last decade….lm not sure if Holmgren, Hextall’s and now Fletchers drafting sucked or if it’s after the Flyers get their hands on these kids…but the development of some of these guys doesn’t appear to be going very well. Whatever it is, it will have to change if the Flyers are going to ever compete with the big boys again.

Ive finally been swayed to the point of view that not only is Giroux going to be traded at or before the deadline, but I also believe he will welcome the trade.

The only issue is really to who? And what kind of return will it be? A bottom feeder would give us the best return in terms of higher draft picks, but that really isn't realistic. Most likely it will have to be a top team one piece from making a run, but then we are talking cap considerations and a first round pick in the 20's or higher....in other words same old same old. What kind of cap hit would be coming back, and why would a team on the brink be sending us a good piece with a similar cap hit?

I think Giroux would help a lot of teams get over the top, but finding that team who can fit all the hurdles will not be as easy as it sounds in my opinion.

Giroux will NOT waive to go to a crappy team IMO. (well, as crappy as we are)

- MBFlyerfan

What makes you believe this? Or just what you think will happen?

I think if he wants to be traded it can be easily done. Flyers retain 50% of the cap hit. No big deal. I think it will be limited to a few teams per where CC will want to play. Makes no diff to me where he goes as long as you get the best package back. He will absolutely help a team as he wont have to drive the bus.

1st-
young nhl ready player-
pick/ mid range prospect -
cap hit to balance out

Also a team looking for a solid bottom pair guy might want Braun in a package with CC. Braun has a very friendly deal.

Yup
G isn’t going to waive unless he’s going to a contender. The Flyers will retain half and the return will likely be a late 1st in 22 and maybe a 2nd in 23.

- BiggE

Of course…why would a non contender trade for a 8million dollar player that’s a UFA this summer?

I know what you're saying, but it seems most of the time when I team grooms a coach at a lower level they bring him up to the NHL and then can him a year or two later(with Cooper being the obvious exception).

82 point season for a veteran capped out team with playoff expectations and a minor league team in the gutter as well. Nothing to see here.

Your TV is fine. So is mine and most others. It's just that his TV shows Flyer's games on a background of unicorns and magic pixie dust.

This again?? Once and for all, Hockey is played 5 v 5 and is played for 3 twenty minute periods. This is how its been for decades and this has not changed! Ties have never left this sport! What you call something does not make it something other than it is. When the 3 periods conclude and the score is tied, the game is a TIE and each team gets 1 point. Anything after that is hockey theatre, whether its 3 on 3 or the shootout (skills competition). Its fun to watch, but its theatre! Yes a team gets an extra point for this theatre, but to me I will never concede a "real" loss when OT is not 5 on 5 and certainly not due to a skills competition.

If the answer to the question "did you win?" isn't yes, you lost.

I Have said this several times. Also no GM in waiting as well. You ever hear any flyers employees getting interviews for jobs elsewhere?

Briere’s being considered in montreal…for the GM job.

G isn’t helping anyone. What makes you think that? 2 goals -12 over last 28 playoff games. Soft perimeter players don’t get it done playoff time

I mean at this point it's ancient history, but you did this about 15 years ago and went to back to back ECF.

I agree with the idea that teams don't do this a bunch. I just feel teams should do it more.

I agree, its the effort that is the problem. And that doesnt fly under torts. and his press conferences are fun.
But also wouldnt mind someone new. Gotta be some AHL coaches that are ready to make the leap.

I guess I'll do a couple drive bys. I watch a fair amount of Flyers games. When I watch this team play, it reminds me so much of the Ranger teams of our own dark ages: a miss mash of talent with a bunch of parts that are talented on paper, but have zero fit together.

I have no reason why the org hired Fletcher. He had a ten year record of making a bubble team that could be plucky in the early rounds of the playoffs, but poor cap management that made sure the Wild were never contenders. The Flyers have gotten exactly what they have paid for. I know they wanted a more agressive GM, but there are more and better options out there that can do the same thing.

As a fan of a rival team, I should be happy that your team looks hopeless, but hockey is better when you guys are good and can be the villans.
