State of the Union press conference

word is Tocchet is openly campaigning behind the scenes for the coaching job

- THE BLACK HAND

He knows better to not hold a press conference and give the typical GM speak BS. That would be an embarrassment.

Giving the head coaching job to someone already in the middle of this disaster is a mistake & stupid. Kind of like shaking up the leadership group because it wasn’t strong enough but keeping the captain…..oh wait
- Fopa21

Why would any good coach even want to commit to this team seeing how they have been the last decade? Could be a career killer....

I'm not sure if G would waive his NMC but he would be excellent on a cup-contending team. Face-offs, his passing, could play PK and PP. I think any contender would want him, especially if we were picking up part of his salary.

I've always maintained that we would not be a contender with having to rely so much on G. He should be in a supporting role not our main offensive threat. We need guys to step up with the goals. G is more of a Backstrom, just never got his Ovie.

Imagine if a team like Colorado added G for a cup run. He wouldn't have to be the guy. 2nd or 3rd line role. JFC, imagine if he was on a line with NAK...

Or Tampa. Or St. Louis...

Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher is holding a 12:15 p.m press conference.

I hate the guy but I was hoping it was going to be Scott

Was it AV that decided to put Lappy in charge of the phantoms?

I guess I'll do a couple drive bys. I watch a fair amount of Flyers games. When I watch this team play, it reminds me so much of the Ranger teams of our own dark ages: a miss mash of talent with a bunch of parts that are talented on paper, but have zero fit together.

I have no reason why the org hired Fletcher. He had a ten year record of making a bubble team that could be plucky in the early rounds of the playoffs, but poor cap management that made sure the Wild were never contenders. The Flyers have gotten exactly what they have paid for. I know they wanted a more agressive GM, but there are more and better options out there that can do the same thing.

As a fan of a rival team, I should be happy that your team looks hopeless, but hockey is better when you guys are good and can be the villans.

- 2sticks1puck

I think part of the reason Fletcher was hired was name recognition and Fletchers relationship with Clarke. I think he’s trying to do what he was brought here to do. Which is make this team competitive. Hextall left him some pretty highly valued prospects and I’m sure he figured he would get a bump from some of those guys as well. That hasn’t really happened. Fletcher put together maybe the most experienced coaching staff in the clubs history by hiring 3 ex head coaches. Like you said there are some really good pieces, but there still doesn’t appear to be an identity. The young guys continue to be extremely inconsistent as do many of the vets and in today’s parity NHL that’s simply not good enough. I think Fletcher is safe as long as the stands remain full….. but I think that may start to change as fans simply give up on what has become a mediocre franchise.

With the way Laperriere ran the Flyers PK like a finely tuned Swiss watch, he deserved to get the Phantoms Head Coaching job.

What was the medical staffs reply to both Hayes and Ellis immediately re-injuring themselves?
- ClaudeFather

I would also be looking hard at who gave Ellis his physical which had to be part of the trade..could it be the same people who have Migraine Man a clean bill of health for drafting..

Frankly I am thinking Ellis and his wife have shell shock moving to here after a career elsewhere...And Hayes is not mentally right either....

This team needs the medical/psychological equivalent of a forensic audit of practices and recent performances by the staff/subcontractors. Including any interference by management.

CF to be available to the media at 12:15 today.
- mickel25

Chiardi reported yesterday that Fletcher has turned down a couple of interviews over the last week….maybe Scott told him to get his azz in front of the media and answer some of these questions…last year they had the build in Covid excuse….this year it’s injuries. The excuses never end …they just change.

So basically the Flyers organization is in the bottom 5 of both the NHL and AHL with a clown at the helm in the AHL. It is an absolute travesty what this once proud organization has become. I'm glad the game was postponed tonight cause that means I don't have to be aggravated again until tomorrow night when the Rags school this pack of sad sacks(6-1 Rags was my early prediction).
- Phillywhiteout

Hope you're wrong...
However if Hart gives up another touchdown I fear for this kids mental fragility that was on display last year could rear it's head again.

Hope not, but my magic Eight balls says "maybe"

If only that NTC/NMC wasn't real though
Although after this poop season why would he stay here for more of this?!

Sorry, but he is involved with the Maine Mariners, not the Royals. I think Comcast or some sporting management group own the team or manage the arena but are not affiliated directly. Briere has been linked to the Canadiens GM job a bit but its a big jump from ECHL coach to GM of an NHL team

Curious what can we get for G. What if we retain almost all of his salary. So he can go to anyone, provided he waives his NTC. We could retain on a lot of players, anyone in the last year of their contract would be attractive. Especially when some injuries start to happen to a contending team. G, RR, Braun, Brassard all have value. Man we even unloaded Yandle....we did unload Gustaffson before.

It's 100% a press conference to back the coach and lament the injuries.
