This has been a shift I feel the last twenty years. Wasn’t around in the 69 s and 70 s. But I view the captain position as a certain type of character. And I require them to bring certain elements.
Now. Not saying anything about g currently. When he was named captain I didn’t understand exactly. Let your best player offensively worry about that. I always preferred a player like landeskog. Current example. Or sometimes it just works out like getzlaf that your best player has those attributes.
But that’s just me. - Peter Richards
I totally agree, and I think G is a good captain. Not every team is going to have a landeskog either. |

You know who also has a very high offensive zone start rate? Cam Atkinson. And he's not exactly producing like Jake, is he? - Tomahawk
Imo you are completely wrong if that was your anticipation.
Is it the highest ozone start rate of his career like Jake? |

Hahahahahhahahahahhahahhahahshsha
I suppose his team could go 0 & 82 & you would still say good things about him. 10 years of crap isn’t enough. I’d like for you to be my boss. No pressure ever. Hahhahhahahha |

You haven’t been invited to anything outside of a family event in a decade huh? Nothing worse than the guy that talks the most and says the least. |

Then they’re not a good captain and just a warm body to fill the spot. It’s not that hard to understand giroux ranks low on the captain list |

When your captain just lollygags what do you expect |

That “managerial dysfunction” would make sense if it was one GM & one coach during this stretch. The fact that it has been multiple people filling those positions should say everything about the C. His laid back lackadaisical leadership is the problem. Say what you want about Scott but he has nothing to do with effort, poor starts, playing down to competition, 10 game loosing streaks etc etc that is a 100% indicator the captain has ZERO business being a captain - Fopa21

Jake's been remarkably consistent throughout his career. Trying to explain away his season with zone starts is just dumb. |

jake is coring how he normally does. and has a very high offensive zone start rate.
ghost is having one of his better years to start the season....also looking at the numbers i don't think shayne will be able to sustain his level....lets see how long this lasts for both players. - Peter Richards
Ghost is tracking for about a 50 point season if he keeps it up. He might land the Yotes a 1st rounder, most likely a 2nd at the TDL. That's how you flip a bloated contract into assets. |

How many 10 game losing streaks has giroux been a captain of he might be going on his 3rd or so if this keeps up |

Notice how Carter Richards and schenn all won the cup when they got away from him |

I love how some here think G says & does all the right things in the locker room & choose to ignore the decade of evidence of the on ice product he leads.
& who cares if he actually does say right things in the room (which is obvious he doesn’t) if this is the results. There is obviously a disconnect there. Turn the page |

90% of the time the captain is the best guy on the team, not this hoorah leader. You have watched too many movies. - ClaudeFather

Well that narrative is askew as well. The Kings were a stacked/poised team before Richards was traded there and received Carter at the TDL. |

Ownership doesn’t care. The Flyers are a drop in the bucket for the multi billion behemoth that is Comcast. The exec in charge, Dave Scott, knows about as much about building a successful hockey franchise as Carrottop
The GM is the poster child for both nepotism and mediocrity and the coach is a pedantic buffoon.
At this point, the best thing that could happen would be for Comcast to sell the team. |

Simple people all last season & summer said the core leadership wasn’t good enough needed to be changed. The GM came out & said they needed to bring in more leaders to help out yet kept the leader. It’s laughable to call out leadership & yet keep the leader.
That’s like the Blackhawks keeping Stan Bowman after the Beach scandal saying he was the leader of the organization but we’ll get rid of everyone under him & bring in some new blood to change culture but keep the guy responsible for the culture. Lol 🤦♂️ |

Jake's been remarkably consistent throughout his career. Trying to explain away his season with zone starts is just dumb. - Tomahawk
So is a point per game on par with his normal numbers?
Consistent yes. But has only been a point per game player once in his career. Until the last few games he started the season as a point per game. Has over a 70 percent ozone start rate…., yeah that wouldn’t assist at all would it.
Never said he wasn’t consistent or he wasn’t a good offensive player. Just let’s see if that production remains throughout the season. You brought up the whole cam comparison not me. |

They got away from more than just Giroux and the list of former flyers winning the cup is a lot longer than those 3. This does underline the corollary to the Flyers generally not drafting well. When we do pick well, we tend to trade them and they go on to success on other teams. Consider Forsberg, Williams, Falloon, RBA, Mellanby, to name a few. Not that I see Colo winning one any time soon, but please explain how Thompson, Brown or MacEwen are better than NAK. Giving up guys like him for nothing is a self-inflicted kick in the A**. |

Where are the prospects now?
Frost -- now seemingly back on track (fingers crossed), and in NHL.
Farabee -- blossomed last year, streaky season so far, currently injured.
Allison- Finally got healthy last year after torn ACL and a foot surgery. Showed promise in the AHL. High ankle sprain in Sept 2021 Rookie Game. Close to returning for Phantoms, not quite ready.
Laczynski -- Left hip surgery. Then right hip surgery. Out the entire 2021-22 season.
Foester -- separated collarbone late last season, injured shoulder this season. Currently out at least 5 months after surgery.
Rubtsov -- Following the 2016 draft, had broken nose, two concussions, shoulder surgery, another shoulder injury, wrist surgery and out again currently due to injury.
Ratcliffe -- Currently struggling in the AHL. Last season was a lost year due to broken ribs, collapsed lung and late season ankle injury/ surgery.
York -- Having rookie ups and downs in the AHL. Currently in Covid protocol.
Zamula -- Back surgery that cost him the second half of the 2019-20 season. Another injury this year in camp. Having a roller coaster second pro season. Still well-regarded long term.
Wisdom -- Showed promise in AHL last year until he had a nasty bout with Covid. Did come back to finish the season. Shoulder surgery in August. Close to being ready to play again at OHL level. - bmeltzer
This is appalling. |
