Somehow you read what I said as saying they wouldn't get a good return. - MJL
Ok, so maybe we disagree on what is a good return. I think its not out of the realm for the Flyers to get 2 high picks and a prospect, given there will be multiple teams in a bidding war. Similar to the asking price of Risto.
It is true. This is another reason why I say he should have more time but without Homer and Scott. Bring in management who will let him run things as he sees fit. Bring in a "president" to consult with him and let's see what he can do. That could be the case now but it seems likely that it is not. - iamscore2day
There is what I don't understand. What makes anyone think Homer has anything to do with the team? I think the only reason why we saw Dave Scott at all last year and into the off season was because of how monumentally bad the Flyers 2020 season was, to show the fanbase that ownership had taken notice and was on the case. How much did we see Dave Scott in 2019 when the Flyers were one of the best teams in the league before the shutdown? I think Fletcher is running the show and can do whatever he sees fit.
Yes, he absolutely intimidated players, no doubt. What I didn't like was the blind side hits at the blue line, that seriously injured a lot of players including Lindros, that to me was dirty. - jd250
Not dirty. Perfectly clean hit according to the rules.

Some points that you're not considering. First of all there is Giroux's cap hit. Many teams are up against it. Especially the top teams in the league. So that is going to limit the number of teams that can fit him. Even if the Flyers retain the max. I could see the Flyers getting a first rounder and maybe a mid level prospect. Or just one high quality prospect in return. What you're suggesting is not similar to the Ristolainen deal. There was no prospect involved.

No GM or team president can do whatever he sees fit. Financial expenditures have to be approved. Contracts have to be approved.
A deliberate headshot to a defenseless player, the exact hit the league has been trying to get out of the game. The dirtiest of dirty hits IMO! - jd250
Stevens was one of the biggest POS's to ever lace up a pair of skates IMO. I hated that phucker!!! We were at game 7 when he laid Lindros out. I wanted to be at the game when someone paid him back. He even admitted to using harder than normal elbow pads and he used them as weapons against the other team's stars. Of course, the Canadian dinosaurs worshipped the ground he walked on. If he would have been a Euro they would have hated him.
On another note, is Torts here yet? Just asking for a friend. I've had enough of AV and his butt buddy Therrien.

It's not a deliberate head shot. Stevens, just like the Lindros hit, has his elbow down. It's a legal hit. A legal hit can't be a dirty hit.
It's what I call a predatory hit. It's a type of hit I'd like to see removed from the game. You see a player is vulnerable, so you take him. However legal. I'd like to see players learn to pass up hits with a player in a vulnerable spot. But you also have to look out for players who would take advantage of that. The very idea that hits to the head as long as it was done in a legal fashion were allowed never seemed right to me. Hitting should be done to separate a player from the puck or to cause a player to make an error.

Stevens did not use his elbow on the hit to Lindros. His elbow was tucked. It was a shoulder hit to the head.
Except they are not his players! He is no more or no less of a player than anyone else on the team. A captain's job is to lead by example and be a liaison between the players and the coaches. - jd250
yup they are his players, i would say that with anyone on the team whether they are captain or not. kind of like saying to a group of people, hey guys, even if there is a girl in the group. Dont take everything so literally for christ sake
but also think its on the captain along with coaches to make sure everyone is trying hard. Like when prongs complained to G about not getting it in deep so he could change lines. Captains can hold everyone accountable. And you disagree and thats fine to.
Dave Scott should be fired
Fletcher never did anything in Minnesota should have never been hired
Coaches should be fired. Can’t adjust their game worth poop.
Roster should be gutted by new qualified veteran gm. For (frank)s sake hire a GM that’s won a cup
Bring iron mike back to bag skate this team into the ground - PhillaBully
i really think dave scott has nothing to do with the hockey moves here, not sure why he gets so much blame. He has his hockey people calling the shots and advising him. He admitted he doesnt know hockey

I agree on this. I remember Keith Primeau and Hitchcock together. He bought into Hitch's system and sold it to the rest of the team. He was their unabashed leader during their 2004 run to the Conference Finals and they very well may have won it all if not for debilitating injuries on defense in the Conference Finals against Tampa(I believe Kapanen had to play defense they were so banged up). Giroux has never come close to leading this team like that!

It was a blatant hit to the head on a guy that was playing his first game back from a concussion. In today's game Stevens would have been given at least a 20 gamer for that. He was a punk!! Just wish someone would have knocked his arse out!!!

In todays game. It was not during today's game. Legal hits to the head were not illegal back then. Stevens was not a punk. He never backed down from anyone and answered the bell whenever necessary.

People don't realize that there are many different ways to lead. Some leaders are vocal in the room and get in guys faces. Some are not. Some lead by playing their best on the ice and by being supportive and being a good teammate. All can be effective.

Opinions vary and ours do here. We had season tickets back then and I saw him play lots of games. While you are correct that he didn't back down I didn't like the hits that he delivered on many occasions. Yes, it wasn't against the rules back then, but the game has evolved and those type of head shots should have been taken out of the game long ago based on what they can do to people after they are done playing. I thought he was very sneaky about these hits and he was always trying to hunt down the other team's best players. No respect for the man in that regard(not that he cares....lol).

You really think Giroux brings it every night? I'm far from a Giroux hater, but I have seen many a game where he seems completely disengaged. I know in an 82 game season(normally) you aren't going to have your best every night, but when you are the captain it isn't a good look when you don't even seem part of the game. Look at the Habs last year with Weber and Perry. I don't know that they get in players faces, but they play their arses off EVERY night. Look at the Habs without those 2 players this year.

On occasion I get pissed when I see Giroux not make the right defensive play or not back check to the net. I think on those occasions. I think he can set a better example. Overall though, yes, I think he brings it every night. He is just no longer a player that can carry a team or overcome the dysfunction of the overall team that we've seen in the last few years.
Ghost, Voracek, Hartman doing better than flyers overhyped superstars. Awful Kubel look like a NHL player at AVS. - THE EVIL WITHIN
why is anyone caring what hartman is doing this year. Or any ex flyers, is this what its come to? Thats crazy, Hartman should be irrelevant. Did he even play a full season here?
