Long term their cap situation is awful. The Flyers find themselves in the worst possible situation a team can be in.
- MJL

If they trade G and Risto at the deadline and buy out JVR in the off season, cap wise the Flyers will be in good shape with all the expiring contracts. Its not a bad as you make it out to be.

That’s a terrible read on their end then. If anything Flyers fans want outsiders at this point. More in house bs is only going to drive people further away.
- hereticpride

To be fair….all of AV, Yeo, Therrien and Fletcher were all outside guys…and to this point I’m not sure what they might do, because outside guys didn’t work this time.

I am not ready to call Fletcher's tenure here a failure, not yet. He made some good moves in his first off season to get this team back, including hiring who at the time was considered the best head coach available. Last year happened, and more moves were made this past off season, which I still think where good moves. Fletcher tried to make this group successful and enable them to go on a legitimate run and it just hasn't worked out. The players quit on their coach which I saw last year also and Fletcher was forced to make a change, and clearly far sooner than he planned on doing so. To me, if Fletcher comes to the conclusion that this team just does not have the talent to seriously contend in today's game and uses this season to clean house and start a full rebuild, I would say he is on the right path to ultimate success.
- jd250

The players did not quit on the coach. You said the same thing last year. Fletcher is on the right path. I applaud your optimism, I really do but at some point, is reality going to kick in for you? This is Fletcher's team. Fletcher was ridiculously shortsighted in what he did. Management mandated moves but these moves are his.

Couldn't disagree more. Hayes is the only bad contract this team has and the NHL has already shown there's many creative ways to dump bad money as long as teams are patient.

JVR's deal is the only other bad deal and we're only stuck with that for next year.

Farabee, TK, Provorov, Hart, Laughton and Coots all have good contracts. They're all more then capable of providing above average value for what they're being paid.

I agree. We just need a fresh set of eyes to figure out what is worth keeping and what is not.

This is putting it bluntly but, yes. Pretty much.

Giroux can by them some cap space. As can a buyout of JVR. A buyout however doesn't save cap space in 23/24. What are they going to do with the cap space? Is this team going to sit back and bank it? Doubt it. They still have future cap anchors in Hayes, Atkinson and Ellis.

What about the bullpoop lack of compete his teams continuously show? Is G to blame for anything in your eyes lol?
- Fopa21

Of course he shares blame. But I also still think he’s a fantastic hockey player who is starting to show his age. It obviously hasn’t worked with him leading the way and it’s not like that’s going to change in the next couple of years, so I do now think it’s time for the Flyers to part ways with him.

Ellis is not a bad contract? Atkinson is not a bad contract? What is it going to cost them to move JVR?

Yes they have. I used to look forward to watching them play. The last time I was really excited was when they drafted Patrick. But after watching what he became, it’s just one disappointment after another.
- landros 2

I can't use NP as an example of the team more broadly because he just had so many unpredictable things happen to him. There is a lot there and I hope he gets it together. I was optimistic at that time too. This most recent about face reminds me of Carter and Richards and the 180. It tells me that Homer still has too much power and that CF is not really running things. Time to move on from the bunch of them and bring in someone new from a program with a history of winning. Get Yzerman's top lieutenant or Armstrong's. Even Rutherford would be an improvement.

You're obviously the guy with the answers if you think getting rid of Jeff Carter was the right move. LOL.

You have to be the most two faced person on these boards. Applauding optimism but waiting for reality to kick in? Coming from a unyielding G supporter after a decade of garbage. Fletcher’s team? G has no ownership. It’s not his team? His players who he is leading? Just admit you’re G already or at least admit you talk out of both sides of your mouth & pick & choose what facts you believe

You are beyond clueless, why would they buy out JVR...he has one more year. Next years team will stink , let him play it out.

How many days in a row do you need to continue the Giroux conversation? You aren’t convincing anyone else, people have their opinions. Give it a rest.

In todays NHL there’s really no way to fix this other than trading expiring contracts and vets (when possible) to acquire cap room and assets, play your kids and hope for help through the draft.

I personally wouldn’t call that tanking but chances are they lose a lot of games in the near future that way until difference makers come here through the draft, or less likely, free agency.

I’m really not sure what they’ll do. I’m not sure what clout Homer still has, but it wouldn’t surprise me if both him and Clarke are still advising in some capacity. Whether or not that influences the coming months….I guess we’ll see.

“Fantastic” come on. He’s one dimensional & he isn’t that elite in that one dimension-offensively to be “fantastic”. His stats are bloated by being the #1 guy here for his entire tenure. If he was so fantastic he would of been a bigger part of team canadas when he was leading guy in NHL. Their point is to field the best team & if he is fantastic he would of been a big part of those teams. Highly highly highly overrated

Well if this continues people will get their wish with risto. Guessing he doesn’t want to stay in dumpster fires anymore. Question is will he be traded or just walk.

IMO the players did not want to play for AV and had little confidence in him or his system, there is no other way to explain this 9 game losing streak! I saw the same thing last year. I applaud Fletcher for making some moves to give this core group a chance to succeed, it just hasn't worked out. Its time to do a full rebuild, use this draft to restock the system and make moves in the off season, including hiring a good coach like Lame Lambert, to get this team back on track next season. This season is over, it should be used to lay the groundwork for a complete rebuild, which I would think you would want also.

Exactly. You nailed it. People would rather rest on their opinions than pay attention to facts right in front of their face. That is the problem.

The Flyers are in a terrible cap situation.

People keep forgetting that Farabee's contract jumps from 925,000 to 5,000,000 next season. That is a major increase.

Couturiers contract jumps from 4,300,000 to 7,750,000 next season. Thats a major jump.

And some people want Giroux resigned.

Rasmus is a FA. Even is you move him you need to replace him and that player will cost you.

Frost is a RFA and if he plays just decent, he'll get a pay raise over his current 863,000 cap hit.
