Give us a break with Rangers rebuild, please. The league gifted them #2 and then #1 picks in successive years because it wants a winning team in NYC. That rebuild is not representative of what is possible for teams in secondary markets like Philly. - iamscore2day

Might as well goon it up for the rest of the season. At least that would be somewhat entertaining, and keep some people in the seats. Scott would love that. Imagine the whole "The Bullies Are Back" marketing angle.
Never mind, this roster is a bunch of limp richards, so even that idea probably wouldn't work. Risto, MacEwen... hell, just tape up Morin's knees and slide him out there for a few bouts. Isn't Cote still milling about? Get him out there, it was always fun watching him eat knuckles. |

Actually it would save the team 2.666 next season and cost them 1.333 in the season after that. - MBFlyerfan
I'm not following. At seasons end, JVR, who is older than 26 years old, could be bought out at 2/3 the remaining contract value ($7) spread out over twice the remaining contract years (2). Thus the Flyers would pay JVR $4.6M over 2 years, each year paying JVR $2.3M. Therefore next season, JVR's cap hit $2.3M, right? |

Yes I agree, sell off as much as you can this season, but you still need to fill out the roster next season and you will need cap space to do so and JVR is a perfect buyout candidate in the off season. - jd250
Fill out the roster next season...what are we filling out, this team is in shambles . It isn’t going to be fixed in the off season |

Ellis is not a bad contract? Atkinson is not a bad contract? What is it going to cost them to move JVR? - MJL
No, no, and I have no idea. Even if we are stuck with JVR, it's not the end of the world. I personally think he can be moved with patience.
I can all but guarantee you Ellis isn't here long term (he doesn't want to be here). He will be moved at some point. Despite what you or many others may believe, plenty of other teams still believe in his talent and would take him in the right deal. Again, we just have to be patient.
The Flyers are in a terrible cap situation.
People keep forgetting that Farabee's contract jumps from 925,000 to 5,000,000 next season. That is a major increase.
Couturiers contract jumps from 4,300,000 to 7,750,000 next season. Thats a major jump. - Captain_Ahab
I haven't forgotten any of that. Doesn't change the fact the Flyers cap situation isn't bad.

Secondary to NYC: less than 50% of viewership of NYC, one franchise vs. 3, consistent underperforming outcomes.

Two Fletchy pressers in a week. He's got things running like a finely tuned Swiss watch.

Philadelphia is the 4th largest media market behind NYC, LA, and Chicago. Take the L and move on. |

If he keep’s Yeo in as coach and they show no improvement then you’ll get your wish…Fletch had better help find some answers or he won’t be around long….just promoting a guy that was in charge of the D (which Fletcher even just said needed to have better structure) doesn’t scream….”I have an answer” |

Not the point of my post, Einstein. The league ain't gonna give Philly the same treatment the Rangers got. That rebuild is not a reasonable expectation for anyone to have.
