The Canucks, expected to compete at or near the top of the Pacific Division this season, may be 8-15-2 for the second-fewest points (18) in the West and nine points out of a playoff spot.[...]
In 2007-08, Boudreau took over the Washington Capitals around Thanksgiving.
The Capitals were 6-14-1. They finished 43-31-8 and won the Southeast Division.
Playoffs
Our favourite Boudreau-ism of the day, however, came in his introductory news conference when he captioned the club’s plight in the NHL standings as being out of the playoff picture by nine points.
Boudreau explained that needing to win 12 in a row, or whatever, seemed too daunting. So he looked at it as gaining one point in the standings every week, for nine weeks. “Win the week!” was his stated goal for the club.
It’s a perfect aphorism. Because the odds are insanely long — Dom Luszczyszyn’s model gives the Canucks a 1 percent shot at making the playoffs — but the way Boudreau says it, it sounds so doable. Easy even. Straight forward!
Perhaps, if you don’t think too hard about it, there’s some method here. |

One guy that is not on that list and they should consider is Martin Madden jr in Anaheim. |

Tyler Myers played the 2nd most minutes of the Dmen at 18:42 and finished +2. He and OEL at +2 were the only pairing to finish above even.

Everyone finished even or above
For the season he's below Schenn, Hughes, Poolman, and OEL for the useless plus-minus stat. |

This is from last year, but shows the (worse than average) Canucks D are even worse with Myers than with him.

If you read nobody finished above even last night except Myers and OEL. Not a useless stat when you understand the game and pair it with hockey knowledge. Schenn and Poolman aren't good examples because they are heavily sheltered. Myers plays against the other teams best nightly. |

It's easier to be in the plus when your goalie pitches a shutout
It's not a completely useless stat, but it's a very flawed stat. Jump over the boards and nowhere near the play? Here's a plus or a minus.
Myers corsi for the year is 44%, and his relative corsi is -12%. The Canucks, without Myers, control the play more than with him. Not a great stat to use, but a lot better than plus minus of one game |

Whatever. Do you think he played poorly last night because I think he had a really solid game. I figure if you can cherry pick the mistakes he makes in game, I'll be here when he plays well and point it out to counter your obvious bias.

I know it’s the flavour here to hate on one guy until the next guy comes along, but take all those stupid stats and place them where the sun doesn’t shine.
The main issue with the team of the past years is no longer here, that guy ruined careers. Just sit back and watch the transformation and enjoy. |

Imagine if we were paying Tanev 4.5 instead of paying Myers 6 right now |

Last night was the first game this season that I was excited to watch. What a refreshing change, let's hope they maintain it.
Man, Christmas came early this year! |

I'm sure he played fine last night. The team as a whole did.
Of course I have a bias. We all do towards players and coaches. Some, however, are more justified than others.
As well, since you always bug neem about the fancy stats, you haven't noted either the images above or the corsi stats that indicate he is not a good player. But, ya know, whatever |

Last night was the first night since I can remember where we dictated the play by being aggressive on the puck. The fastest I can remember this this looking. And the most communication I heard on the rink mics and saw between players. These things didn't appear from out of nowhere. They were being stifled.
I know it's only one game but it was a nice change to watch these guys being led to play the game the way it was meant to be played. |

I didn't come in here to start it, didn't even start with the stats. Happy Benning and Green are out. I was the one posting the uplifting Bouds stats and info earlier |

You lost me when you showed stats from last year. As for the Corsi he starts almost 60% of the time in the Dzone on a bad posession team. It's to be expected. I also view defensive Corsi as a team stat as opposed to individual.
If you noticed, last night with the team establishing a forcheck there was far less pressure on the back end. Less speed for the Kings through the neutral zone. With defensive puck pressure there was more time to break out. You see, Defense is a team game. |
