I thought that was Myers best game of the season. I think Bruce might dumb things down a bit for the players compared to Green's "complex/detailed" system and make it easier for a guy like Myers who doesn't have the best hockey sense at times.

I don't think he's going to suddenly start fully living up to that contract, but maybe some baby giraffe steps toward doing so.

Never lived up to the hype of his first year.

Has never even come close to matching his point total from his first year. That’s unusual.

Imagine if we were paying Tanev 4.5 instead of paying Myers 6 right now
- NorthNuck

Jimbo and his "braintrust" essentially chose Myers over Tanev as soon as the ink dried on that Myers deal.

As much as Green was a$s, it's hilarious that they thought replacing a top PK'er and shutdown minute dman with a guy who needs to be sheltered and is decent on the powerplay was a good idea. Square peg, round hole type of poop.

It's the next GM's problem now, he's going to need a couple of years to sort out this weirdly put together roster.

The 2nd Best part of the game was Podz having all the ice time because the best was Demko dislocating his hips to make saves.

3rd best was watching Petey suck so bad at not shooting and be forced to do a penalty shot and miss....guy has a serious mental block right now....too much time with Henrick

He also played on the top PP unit all year long back then, give him full time top PP unit minutes in Vancouver and suddenly he's going to put up 40+ points. People really underestimate how big of an impact top unit PP time has on overall point totals.

That rookie year Myers had 32 points in 82 games outside of the PP.

Last year with the Canucks, he had 18 non-PP points in 55 games, a 27 point pace over 82 games, 5 points off of his amazing rookie year

I don’t know if Smyl is part of the problem or the solution but I loved the passion and articulation that he spoke with.

I watched EP's interview post-game, usually he'd be more down after he knows he had a game where he should've executed better, but he looked about as happy as I've seen him all season long.

Some of these players flat out didn't believe in that regime anymore, and they're far from alone in that regard.

I like him and OEL as a pairing. I don't think either is worth what they're getting paid. But I'm not about to let that hamper my enjoyment of watching them evolve. I think that they have great potential together and will be key elements to whatever chance of success we have this year.

What kinda drove me off the fence was reading hilariously inaccurate criticisms of Myers play. The blind bias that can't bring itself to recognize a solid game from a poor performance.

I don't know about articulation(you're just too used to hearing Benning speak so the bar is currently set at a middle school level), but yeah I loved the passion.

What gets me about Myers is the penalties. Usually guys with a long reach are able to avoid a few extra penalties compared to a guy without as their reach saves grabbing a guy. It seems to be the opposite with him in that he gets turned around so easily or is careless where he puts his stick (insert joke)

But here's hoping the reduced minutes can give us even half the contract value ... that would be nice

Well, the math says that if this is a poorly constructed team, over the course of the season, the results will return to normal, meaning lots of losses. I honestly don't know if this is a poorly constructed team but that right side D doesn't scream winner.

I would suggest that the previous coaching group did not get enough out of certain players, particularly on the PK. Smart, quick players who understand offence and can make reads on the PK? Sign me up. Well, better than shell shocked less smart players who have no business in the National leaving all kinds of loose change in the home plate area.

They signed Myers to eat up top 4 minutes and PK. His whole career he's been more comfortable in a PP and sheltered offensive role at ES.

Their 3rd line checking "center" they traded for can't win a faceoff to save his life because he's really a natural winger

Pettersson himself is a more of a hybrid center/winger(at least under Green) so keeping Miller off his line for extended periods is something that may not work, but maybe it will with the coaching change, we'll see.

Overall the weirdly built defense(need a RHD that can handle playing tough minutes) and lack of another true center is the biggest issue.

I do love how so far Bruce is using more players on the PK, they're more fresh that way and it gets more guys involved.

But right now it's that honeymoon period where the players are all trying to impress the new guy, once that wears off we'll get a better sense of where the team is at

Simply acknowledging that the excuses need to end is refreshing. Everyone is saying that Stan doesn’t really want the position, that he prefers to work more in the background, but great that he’s stepping up right now.

I wanted to laugh at him in the interview but by the end of it I was on his side. It was surprising. But still he is playing so poorly. I hope Bruce can fix his game.

A reporter should have asked if Aquaman phoned Linden to apologize. Or at least ask " so Francesco - was Trevor Linden right all along?"

Steamer had a good interview but he was/is also the last man standing...edit..or Chris Gear..LOL

Myers is an NHL player. Any team would take him for the right salary. Loui was not. HUGE (frank)ing difference

With all the money the Canucks paid him, I'm pretty sure they didn't have to photoshop that image. That's just how he walks around Arizona

That's interesting, because I interpreted it more like Stan saw opportunity opening with JB and Weisbrod gone, and decided now was the time to make some moves.

It isn’t my opinion, I haven’t actually watched/listened to the presser. But those in the media who know Stan, and talk to him regularly suggest that this is *more than likely* a temporary thing, that it isn’t really what he wants to do. I have no idea, never met the man.

Everyone I've heard speak about him says he's a pretty honest and straightforward guy.

Funny enough, I found out a couple years ago I'm tangentally related to him by marriage. My mom's cousin is married to his daughter or something of the sort. They had a signed poster of him back in his playing days hanging in their basement.

Yes good for him. He is soaking up rays and playing out his last year in the league. Loui always wins

It's interesting that the snake oil salesman in Benning didn't see the snake oil salesman in Loui.

Only thing we need to take from what has happened is Bruce there it is!!!

Hopefully we can unlock what the young guys can do if not they'll be gone. Fun time
