I would have said Coots last year but he looks terrible right now. I am guessing he is playing hurt. I still think he is the right guy because he will hold players accountable. The other guy is Laughton. He reminds me of that guy from Band of Bros who took over things at the end. Seems like he can be a scary individual and he always shows up to play. - iamscore2day
Coots would be the next captain , pretty straight forward in my eyes |

This team has its faults but you don’t score 5 goals against the Aves if you aren’t competing. - SuperSchennBros
You do if they're starting a rookie in his first NHL game.

Interesting. I can see coots provie or whatnot. Also wouldn’t be surprised if it was Hayes.
But in moving forward that’s why I chose Farabee. Puts someone a little younger in the leadership role. But in another year or two his game will improve. He just has the fire and maturity imo. And will work with the vets to have buy in from all. Bridge gaps.
And I don’t think Scott scares anyone. No |

It's really hard to reconcile the night and day difference between preseason Yands and regular season Yands.
Preseason Yands looked like a (frank)ing All-Star. - Tomahawk
Just shows the difference between the level of play in preseason and the regular season. Which is why we should also slow our roll on evaluating young players based on their preseason play...and why they need to look like they are tearing it up instead of just holding their own.

When did they actually show the ability to be in the playoff race? No, they really haven't. Not when you dig deeper and look at what actually happened. The playoffs are pretty much out of reach. They could go on a big run and make it but there aren't any signs of that. - MJL
I think we have a difference of opinion here because you believe that the first 11 games had unsustainable scoring totals due to being lucky basically. I think the reverse is true that the second set of 11 games had unsustainable lack of scoring due to slumping. I think we both agree that the team defense had not ever been where it needs to be yet, but that is the piece that needs more time. The scoring and goaltending need to hang on until they can get healthy and get their details consistent. |

I would not name a captain . Let's see how the off season goes and develops. There is no rush. |

Flagged by accident. Both are correct. The high shooting percentage is hard to sustain. Not playing is easier to sustain but then there’s a whole pride thing. At this level you would hope they all care I guess. But yes. Pessimism vs optimism. 99 percent of the arguments here you can say the reverse to any post. |

This is part of the overall problem. Fire coach. Respond with something positive (5 goals and not rolling over at 4-1). Now ignore the 7 goals against. The poor play. The fact that it was a 4th string goalie on a horrible defensive Colorado team. And most importantly THE FLYERS LOST THE GAME. But, the team and some fans will continue to see the positives and ignore the real problems, which is this team is just not a top notch team from ownership to players. That means it may never be addressed and fixed. Sad but true. Maybe not quite the NY Jets of the hockey world but certainly not the “we’re always a threat” of the 70’s, 80’s and parts of the 90’s and 00’s. Remember when no one wanted to play against the Flyers in Philly? Most fans under 30 don’t. |

Good post. There was a thing called the Philly flu back in the 70's and 80's. Teams did not want to come into the spectrum and play the Flyers. It was a tough night at the office. The 1979-1980 team had a 35 game unbeaten streak, which even with ties is unfathomable. Although they haven't won a Cup in my lifetime, they almost always fielded a competitive hard nosed hockey club. Those days are long gone.
This team can't win a game. It's both pathetic and sad at the same time. |

They're off today, does that mean the players have the complete day off, or are they just off the ice? |

I would think the CBA would give them a full day off after a back to back but yeo probably needs a good practice day to get the team in sync with his plans |

All you have to do is look at the data and see what is correct. Myself and Tomahawk were actually predicting it to happen. Certainly not to the extent of a 9 game losing streak but there was no doubt that they were not a good team even when they had a decent record. As they were bleeding scoring chances and not having the puck enough. What has happened in the last 11 is directly because of those issues and the subsequent confidence issues. I have no doubt that they will rebound and play better hockey but until they fix the issues mentioned, they won't be a good team.

Not sure what to make of this. Whitney is well connected and has a lot of sources.
Go Sens Go I guess.

If they lose this game apparently Trotz is gone and probably behind the Flyers by Friday. |

Sounds too good to be true, and that it coming from me. Impervious to pessimism. I’ll cross my fingers anyway. |

They were 8-4-2 before their 9 game losing streak. How wasnt that an ability to be in the playoff race?

Flyers claimed defensemen Kevin Connauton off waivers. He's better than Seeler at least. |
