I pray that Fletcher finds a moment of clarity and moves Ristolainen at the deadline for whatever he can recoup. - MJL
IMO the only way this happens is if this team does not turn it around and get into a playoff spot, because then there is no excuse for not doing a complete reset here. |

Even if they are in a playoff spot, if the GM had any clout, he would move him. This team isn't going anywhere. Fletcher will just continue to make a fool of himself if he believes otherwise.

There you go, thanks for making my point. So you are saying here for everyone to read that if this Flyers team instead had Ghost, Patrick, Myers, Voracek & Haag they would be much better right now?? You don't have a clue! Apparently then it would not be the coaching?

I think you need to wait and see, because honestly I think Fletcher knows this team is not going anywhere. Fletcher stated as much in his 11/30 presser when he pointed out that this team does not have the right personnel. |

Not sure it’s hands down…but the guy is a legit top 4 d. You don’t get them for free. If we had maybe drafted better or developed better over the last 8 years we wouldn’t of had to spend that type of draft capital. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. - landros 2
Yup absolutely. The same can be said of the Hayes signing. When you don't draft and develop well, you are forced to fill holes other ways and that puts you in all sorts of trouble if you miss on those signing as well. |

If they saw Patrick as even a second line center… they wouldn’t have drafted Hayes….. |

That too, but we had the chance to put COL over a barrel for his services......a Makar in hand is worth 3 or 4 firsts.

Just because they made a mistake, why should we?
Also, Fletcher just said many other teams wanted RISTO......that is not a reason for us to overpay. |

It isn't and Fox is a great player. All I posted prior was that there are other great players out, the key is finding them. I didn't think that would be a controversial post, but even a one word post like "hello" can be made controversial on this forum by some. |

But its not just about Ron Hextall here. Holmgren drafted some good players but not enough of them. Fletcher has had 3 drafts now and his1st and 2nd round picks include: York, Brink, Attard, Foerster, Andrea, Wisdom & Tuomaala. So far 3 NHL games from York and that is it. Now I understand players need time to develop but not one player he drafted was ready for the NHL. For the past two decades drafting has just not been good enough. - jd250
To paraphrase Seinfeld, it's like you have no hockey sense at all. Homer did not respect the draft as he traded many of them away. We had no 1st or 2nd round picks in 09 or 10. Our earliest pick on those days was #81. For all of those picks from 06 to 13, we have left on the roster JVR, Coots and Laughton. Hextall eclipsed that total by a wide margin. Not a perfect drafting record but to say Homer drafted "some good players" (I like the Lukko pick alot) endorses a draft record that left us without any depth in the organization. Since he also bungled the salary cap, we were in trouble there too. |

On a defense that has featured Keith Yandle and Nick Seeler on it, let’s beat up on Ristolainen daily. |

We have too much equity in Risto now, you don't understand that? |

To be fair, and Meltzer explained this, it was not just Hextall that picked Patrick but also there were scouts that wanted him also. So the scouts were split between the 3 players and Hextall wanted what he thought would be a dominant center. It didn't work out obviously. I wanted Makar because I got to watch him here at UMass, but that was my bias. - jd250

What needs to be decided is the old "throw good money after bad" conundrum.
Will it be better to cut bait and get what you can for him at the deadline, or resign him to an overpriced contract?
IMO he is not going to sign for a paycut as I think he believes he would make more in FA. But as he is now I don't think he is worth his current cap hit.
Fletch has a lot to think about.
