Being at the game last night I can say that Rasmussen is the best dman on the team right now. Provy honestly is awful. If this team isn’t in the hunt I’d see what I can get for him. Rasmussen won’t wanna stay here and we gave up a lot to get him. - jmdodgeser4

Who? Did we pick yet another player off waivers? Haha. Rasmus Rasmussen. Sounds like a character from a bugs bunny cartoon |

Looking at record...
12: playoffs
13:playoffs
14:playoffs
15:conference finals
16:playoffs
17:playoffs
18:no playoffs
19: SC champs
(And several 100 point seasons interspersed in the years befoe cup.) - PT21
so they went from not making the playoffs to winning the cup. |

Well, we have only had 1 high pick recently and that did not work out. Criticizing them for that pick is legit but all this "sky is falling" crap is just not right. We have a solid prospect pool. The NHL and minor league teams both appear to need better coaching.
It is all on Cliff right now to handle this and not do something stupid. Unfortunately, he is projecting wobbly right now. - iamscore2day
There are some platitudes in hockey that make me want to scream out in alarm.
"solid" prospect pool/player/team/system/coach
"NHL ready"
"Deep team"
"200 foot" player.
"Top six potential"
Its not that I am critical of these attributes per se. It is that I am fearful that these are the things being mentioned and some other things are not being mentioned.

Ellis and Risto were seen as needs. It followed a debacle of a season. The brand value was being damaged.
At the time of the Panarin signing, Giroux played the same position, and had 85 points in 82 games that season. Hardly the same imperative. - PT21
So Panarin wasn't a need? The Flyers had all they needed at that point in time? You aren't making sense.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has got to be the damned coolest hockey name since Espen Shampoo Knutsen.

This is a variation of the draft high argument, which I have beaten to death here.
Go back to the SC winners of the past 16 years, and see who has EVER won the cup without having a top 10 prospect in their ranks playing a critical role in the cup. You will come up with 1 team: Boston. That's it. - PT21
How many teams won the Cup with players that weren't top 10 ranked prospects playing a pivotal role on the team?

I’m gonna say again. Even though we lost 7-5, I think we had our best game in ten games. Unfortunately Martin Jones had his worst start of the season. The Aves as stated are bad defensively and gave an AHLer his first NHL start. OK. Allowing 5 goals against a team who struggles to score is bad defense. The baby steps comes from the fact we were able to score five times. With this said, the Aves are a high powered offense and they did what they do, they scored. |

Yes, that's because you've looked an anecdotal evidence and concluded that Flyers management doesn't care about winning a Cup. I simply don't believe that.

Not true about Panarin...almost signed with Isles. Rags outbid them |

How do you almost sign with someone? Rangers did not out bid them. Panarin reportedly turned down more money from the Isles and Columbus. It was well known that he wanted to sign with the Rangers. |

I think it’s ridiculous anyone would suggest management, ownership or any high ups don’t care about winning a championship. You better have real evidence to state these claims. |

They didn't. Florida was reportedly a front runner. The Isles and Columbus reportedly offered more money. He signed where he wanted to sign.

I'm sure that Fletcher would.
I'd be surprised if Dave Scott spends any time at all thinking about the Stanley Cup. His idea of success for the Flyers is probably a lot more nuanced and practical than simply chasing a trophy. |

I agree, the effort was there for a change. Too bad we had to fire a coach just to get that type of effort. The pay check should be enough

The Flyers were gifted that # 2 pick, weren't slotted to draft around 13th? Get a gift, and what do they do with it? Picking second and the pick literally turning into nothing is a joke. Don't want to hear about consensus of scouts/talking heads in the media etc. Patrick had an injury history pre-draft. Case closed. The fact the 3 players drafted right after him being studs is just an extra kick to the balls. - PLindbergh31
the flyers would have been better off drafting 13 lol |

Depends on where on the corporate organization chart you draw the line for Flyers management. I don't think Dave Scott cares. |

Rangers came in later I thought. At first it was believed to be between the Avs panthers and isles. Multiple reports of this anyway. |

This screams of how bad drafting and player development have been over the last 6-7 years when this is still the case. GIROUX should be # 4-5 with the same numbers at his age if they evaluated and developed talent properly.[/img] |

Indeed.
The economics of going for the cup in big market teams like Philly is so not worth it.
If a casual look at figures can confirm this, I find it hard to believe that people who do this for a living, and get paid zillions of $ for it, and are at the top of their professions which depend on them seeing precisely things like this, don't see it as well.
