I'm all about trading for other NON PLAYOFF TEAMS first round picks = higher percentage in the lottery. - DrMidnite
Somehow, the Flyers would get Kane'd again |

That's the problem. Then you really are in purgatory. You go all in on a rebuild and mess up all the high picks like the Oilers and you are looking at 10 year non playoff type team. |

It is absurd to say that Giroux is part of the problem. - MJL
If they are out of it which they probably will be I would ask Giroux if you he would accept a trade at the deadline I would also ask if he would be open to coming back and then have Couturier as the Captain moving forward. IMO Giroux is definitely not a problem on this team, and ideally I would like to see him finish his career as a Flyer.

That would be fine if it works. I am beyond perplexed at how Coots is struggling. I expect he's hurt because I saw several times last night where he couldn't accelerate and just waved his stick. |

The organization. From Clarke on down. Needs a complete flush. Scouts, coaches, trainers, etc. Just the fact that commentators on nhl radio we’re stating how the flyers would never rebuild. Huh? |

Do you see in the next 3 years, a player like Adam Fox coming in or a UFA like Panarin signing with the Flyers.

Couturier has to be hurt, I have not seen him look this bad ever. He was definitely in the preseason Canada Olympic talk now that is long gone.

Hopefully Comcast sells the team or it wouldn't be a complete flush. |

Colorado is definitely a quicker team and a more skilled team. I don't think the discrepancy is as wide as you label it. The Makar goal was a skilled play but the Flyers let him skate right up the ice. Provorov buys a shift to the inside, makes a bad cross over stride and Makar is right by him. Provorov is struggling right now but he will bounce back.
Now is not the time to trade Giroux. There is too much of the season left and too much on his deal left. If he is moved it will have to happen closer to the deadline. - MJL
you can't let a great skater wheel from his end to your end without disrupting him, he will fly into the zone and what we saw was just that, Provy trying to keep pace with a highly talented, full speed oncoming player. Provy had a good start to the season, the goalies did, the bad play of the team has caught up to them. Lets be honest, you can't have 2 D pairs in this league and that is what they have each night. Then layers/puck support, they just don't support each other on the puck, whether forechecking or defending. ala the Makar goal. On the bright side, Frost looks the part, keep giving him 1st line minutes, keep him with G, maybe add farabee when back.
Win 3 out of the next 4, get healthy and who knows what can happen. I would not bet the house on it but I am still pulling for these knuckleheads |

If so then sit him and let him heal. They have basically zero chance of making the playoffs and a less than zero chance of contending for the Cup so let the tank begin. |

Provorov simply made a fundamental skating mistake. He made a bad crossover. He is struggling right now. Your puck support comment is 100% true. You see it with other teams in every facet. Not with the Flyers. Frost is showing the skill that is going to make him a very good player.

Great question! I thought about this and just my opinion, I would not resign him. This team needs to move on and start fresh. As much as I love G, I think he is part of the problem here, and its time this team goes forward into next season with a new captain and a new identity. - jd250 So, who would be the candidate to be the next captain? That's the biggest problem with this team. No leaders in the room when adversity strikes. Take Giroux out of the equation and who would make a viable captain. I just don't see anyone. People say Coots, but he is an introvert, so no go IMO. Next!

I do agree with you the salary cap definitely had something to do with it. But they did have success after the salary cap was put in place. What is really missing is players with character and leadership. Pronger was a game changer on and off the ice. I have stated before when hak was coach that pronger should be brought here as an assistant. It would be great if the flyers could have one of these stars. But you can win as a committee. I look to the bruins as an example. - Keyser soze
What was really missing was a keen understanding of where the game was going and getting in front of the wave with appropriate draft selections and other player acquisitions, something the Flyers did not do a good job of. The mentality of big and slow died decades ago but not with Flyers, at least not until recently. I am still a big believer of playing a physical and heavy game, but it must be complimented with speed, skill and depth, and the Flyers lack all of this IMO. I do believe Fletcher recognizes this and has drafted differently the past few drafts, which is why I still believe Fletcher is the right GM for this team.
And lets pump the brakes on the Bruins please. What have they won exactly? One cup in 2011, their only cup in over 4 decades! And the only reason the Bruins won that cup is because they got an out of this world performance from Tim Thomas while at the same exact time, Roberto Luongo was throwing up all over himself. The Bruins are a disciplined defensively structured team but that only gets you so far. Even with one of the best 1st forward lines in the NHL, the Bruins have suffered from the lack of secondary scoring and in the playoffs that bites you right in the rear, which the Bruins know all too well. So while I admire the job Bruce Cassidy has done, the lesson we should take away from the Bruins is you need speed and skill up and down your lineup if you want to win a Cup in this league. The days of winning with a top heavy offense are long gone. |

I hate to break it to anyone but they are out of the playoffs now. - MJL
Yes, in current standings. I am not willing to say that a turn around with this team would fail to make the playoffs. NJD is a must win, and I will wait to see how the next handful of games go. It is not out of reach for them, and it goes against my core to give up.

Last night I was unable to get the telecast.
Too bad for me. I could have seen some goal scoring.
Too good for me. It wasn't a win.
I watch for the emotional buzz and all of the emotions now tend toward looking for a noose. Either for them or me.
(I don't do self-harm, BTW.)
Hitch up another horse, that one died.
And so it goes. |
