Just wanted to apologize for not having an article uploaded in a while. Been having lots of internet/computer issues but should be good to go from now on. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on tonight, and the last few games!
How many games do you think Spezza gets suspended for? |

No worries Jake!
I guess 6 games?
Still not sure I agreed with Pionk's suspension... |

Yep. 6 game for Spezza, and he will be appealing. I don't see the appeal going anywhere, but as for Pionks suspension, I think it is fair. He stuck the leg out pretty good from what I have seen. I am not 100% sure how it works with suspensions and IR, but he is set to miss those next two games anyways. Might carry over where he is injured.

Thanks Old Flopper for the update on anthem singer. It looks like Stacy Nattrass might be a cause for Jets not performing well. I like Stacy though, she seems like a sweet person. |

Carolina is another team that play that high pressure PK inside their zone where the Jets have no answer. Any team that plays this PK system can stifle the Jets PP attack which is very evident tonight.
For zone entry, the PP relies on 80's era dump and retrieval, lol, if they can even get the puck past the four defenders stacked up on the blueline. The 5 minute major was hilarious as the Jets refuse to drop the puck back to freeze the PK defenders and try to either carry the puck in or use the trusted 80's era dump and chase!
Coach, forget Don Cherry's dump, chase and retrieval and try something different please. |

Yea, that's the thing, this is no secret but the Jets aren't going anywhere until they improve their PP and PK. Certainly a fact.
Like you say, Carolina and other teams that use the high pressure penalty kill, tender our PP useless. Why WE are s-o-o-o passive on the penalty kill is beyond me.
Yes I know the Jets got one power play goal tonight, and a couple recently, but their current set-up can't scare many teams. I don't mind the dump and chase at times, but you got to be chasing when you're dumping. If it remains the same.....I don't know?

All the defenders have to do is apply pressure. Carolina is #2 in PK, there is a reason for that.
Agree on our PK, totally passive. Drop down into the box, or then 1, 1 , 2, over and over again. No much pressure. |

Yes. My rant for the past 5 games. Anyways ,any decent coach should realize that he needs a better way to enter the zone on the PP. It was embarrassing tonight. Instead of the chant " Tru North " during the national anthem , the Jets fans should be screaming " Fire Maurice " . Maybe mgmt will get the hint.

I found it funny how TSN started the night talking about how similar the Jets and Canes are and finished the night talking about how much the Jets can learn from Carolina.
I gotta say I was stunned by how easily the Jets skaters just let themselves get angled to the boards and into the traps the Canes set up in their own end. That and how passive they were defending. At least two Carolina goals would have been prevented if the defenders were playing tight to their men around the net instead of standing off to the side.

Carolina is an impressive team. Plus last night they were missing 2 of their best Dman and still looked formidable.
Jets are the same and will remain the same unless there’s a change at coach(s) or philosophy….and that ain’t happening.
Huddy apparently can not be fired, must have something on the organization lol |

I agree. If that were anyone but Spezza, I would have been calling for more. That hit was vicious and clearly done in retribution. I get a kick out of the maple leafs blog tho. Nobody even indicates that the hit was bad, and blames every issue on the Ref's. I guess players can't be accountable if they wear a leafs jersey? Both players made mistakes, and the suspensions seem adaquate in my opinion. Just wish they could stop criticizing the officials in every loss, or games that become too physical for their stars. If Simmonds can attack Harkens and JoMo from behind as he did, imagine if Maurice gave Lowry the green light to do the same to the leafs little guys.

Canes look great. I sure received my fair share of criticism last year for my belief that the Jets should have looked into acquiring DeAngelo at the deadline, as he was available for a 3rd rd pick supposedly. The bulk of his issues revolved around his political statements, so getting him in another country seemed like a reasonable option. Oh well tho. Good for the Canes, as they watched Hamilton walk off for 9M, and replaced him for 900k.
Slavin tho.... That guy is an elite shutdown D who gets the puck out of his zone with ease. Very underrated. |

I think Slavin has been called underrated for long enough now that it doesn't count anymore. He's pretty clearly one of the top 5 defensive defenders in the league, if not THE guy. Don't know who I would put ahead of him that way.
Brett Pesce is better all around than Slavin is though. |

Heinola recalled. I think he may actually get to play this time. The quickness and precision (great sticks in lanes) of the Hurricanes exploited the Jets in 3 zones. Heinola (and Pionk) would have helped. |

In the world of DOPS, Ian Cole fined $5,000 for kneeing Scheifle.
Can anyone try to articulate why Pionk gets 2 games and Cole, who has a history of kneeing players like Brock Nelson and Devin Shore, gets a $5,000 fine?
Is it simply the difference that Scheifle was not hurt where as Sandin was? Or, is this just the sad fact of inconsistent DOPS? |

I have zero respect for DOPS. They are highly inconsistent. Cole should have got 3-5 games for that attempt to injure.

DOPS capitulation to the Toronto fan powerbase.
show me any angle where the Pionk hit is more agregious than the Cole hit - it doesn't exist. Pionk didn't extend his knee and it didn't flair out until after contact. Pionk let with his shoulder. Cole also leaned forward but that knee was driven hard at Sheifele, full extension forward toward his target and separation from his left leg. |

Doesn't matter when you hit a Toronto Maple Leaf. Automatic 2 games for starters.
