I’m not so sure that is accurate. From the broadcast last night and from some of the pressers from Bruce, it seems like there were incredibly strict and complex systems in place that stopped many of the players from using their natural hockey IQ. The Sportsnet panel (Anthony Stewart?) mentioned that the players were too busy thinking about what they were supposed to do instead of just reacting to the situation. The game is so fast now that if you think about what you need to do it’s already too late. It was frustrating the players.
Bruce mentioned that he’s trying to dumb things down a bit and letting the player’s skill take over.
Whatever the truth is I hope they can get the team back on track and at the minimum give us some entertainment. - bloatedmosquito
He also said after the first game when a reporter asked, wow Bruce special teams went 2 for 4 on the PP and 2 and 0 on the PK. Bruce’s response was (with raised eyes) that’s what happens when you don’t stand around, awesome dig at Greens collapsing system or no movement PP. |

That's my logic as well. Guys with those types of resumes aren't exactly a readily available commodity. They don't just sprout up out of nowhere.
It's also unrealistic to expect a new GM to dive in and take over the league just because he views things differently than the old guard. Even a guy like Dubas had Mark Hunter and Old Lou as his training wheels when he started. - Load Management
A GM with experience would be nice just not Buffalo experience. |

Yeah, I’ve commented on Woo before and was accused of never watching him play. I think some folks are just fascinated by his name and aren’t really paying attention to his skill set. Which is minimal at best. - bloatedmosquito
When on he has a good outlet pass and plays with pace. When off, not so much. Solid and fast skater. He's also good at clearing out the front of the net and boxing out rebounds. Sticks up for his teammates. Still think he's a few months away but he'll get a shot. The tools are there and he's only 21. Juulsen is 24.

I'm not trying to defend him, or say I want him, but he made moves that turned into 2 cups. I would ruin our team for the next 20 years, support them during that time, if we won 2 cups to do it - Retinalz
Good god, hey let’s see what the bad aspects of a person is so we can bit ch and moan and profess to be experts. (frank) this place is pathetic with maligning anyone and everyone. |

If called up it would be a 3rd pairing role & like to see some physical play.
I’ve really liked Schenn so far. Goodly amount of points & some big hitting. - Nighthawk
We all want to see physicality from our d-men but you still need skill to limit the scoring chances.
IMO the lack of physical play from this team was more to do with coaching style; sit back and wait.
Bruce came in and said “my philosophy is why let the opposing team into your zone at all” or something like that. I hope that means standing up at the blue line and destroy anything that tries to get through. Red Rover style. I think we’ll see a much more physical team game now. Fingers crossed. |

As NH pointed out Schenn is having a decent stint now. Woo brings the same game and no hurry to fit him in. Schenn and Burrows signed for another year so let Woo get training and minutes to develop his game.

Exactly. Green and Baumers system was to make a box.
The Rutherford hire just shows how disorganized ownership is and how meddling they are. If they were smart they would have put Rutherford in place to manage Benning before firing him. Then you get his scouting but Rutherfords experience. Green should have been gone in the summer too. |

Rutherford for President is fine, just not GM. The organization needs a proper structure. |

Hmmm interesting move.
Willing to hear the man out before jumping into hysterics.
Let's hear what the plan is before assuming all 1st/2nd round picks are out the window.
The situational differences between the Pens of 2014-2020 and the Canucks of today are vastly different.
I can't imagine he takes the same approach to team building...for better or worse. - Whiskey-Tango
Umm, yeah…that’s not how everyone roles here, it’s hysteria from rumour to signing to well for ever and always. Your objective approach is not welcome. |

Benning was an embarrassment. He had his chance and failed miserably. So happy I don’t have to hear his voice or look at his dumb expressions ever again.
And his drafting was nothing special at all. |

Superstar Erik Gudbrandson said when he got here the Canucks (Green's) system were very complicated. Now that Sutter has dummied it down for him he is one of the NHLs elite blue liners.
Many players plummet after arrive and thrive when they leave. Fvck Green.

This is the Canucks organization we’re talking about, where you hire backwards
Listen, we’ve got an experienced coach and now an experienced President, let’s hope the GM also follows suit. This is all a step in the right direction!! |

Yes. So much this. The slow roast to develop consistency. He'd get caved in if he were brought up for an extended amount of time right now. Just like Rathbone did. |

Just repeating what was said. Doesn’t matter now, he’s gone and I’m ecstatic. Haven’t been this optimistic since EP’s first couple of weeks in the league. |

Fu ck I was a miserable Canucks fan for most of Benning’s tenure, things are really looking more positive imo. Sadly I found myself wanting them to lose so the coach and GM would get let go, last night I was cheering for a win. Total mind-shift, I love it!! |

Let's face it, Dmen aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. They're grunts, the mules of the team. Thick and stubborn. Simple has always been the way to go with them. |
