Botterill at least has been a GM. He was once a top gM prospect and failed. I’m sure he learned from the experience

I think the problem with Benning (aside from, you know, actually being Benning) is that it was a rookie Pres/GM/coach. Having Rutherford to help slide MacFarland into the GM role after he's been the AGM for so many years between CBJ and the Avs is a good balance, IMO. I think that having an old-school coach and Pres, they shouldn't go old-school GM as well. Having a younger guy there brings a better balance to management. At least, I would assume

For the Rangers, it helps when a cheapskate like Melnyk hands you a 1c because he doesn't want to pay for an extension, a young stud like Fox refuses any team but yours, you have the cap for Panarin and a young goalie pans out. There were a lot of smart moves and a lot of luck in their rebuild.

I think the problem with Benning (aside from, you know, actually being Benning) is that it was a rookie Pres/GM/coach. They came into the place I used to work, I was at the upstairs bar and my friend was working the downstairs bar/club thing serving them. He said Chad gave $100 US bill for whatever he ordered. 4 beers and some shots? $100. 1 vodka soda? $100. Made some good money that night
