We adopted cats several years back - two brothers from the same litter we were told. Well, they were definitely close. How they could make those claims still seems odd to me since they found them on the streets. It's like finding a scarf on the street and writing a backstory for it - like some awful J. Peterman catalog thing, but I digress.
One of the two cats had FIV when we got him. I mean we'd had this cat for a week before we could tell something was off. The medicine he was on was not good for his bowels nor our floors or anything on them. The disease ate away his teeth, and he died in about 4 months. It cost us $3000, I think, to keep a cat alive for 4 months that we didn't even really get a chance to get attached to. He was beautiful and gentle and sweet, but . . . .
Moral of the story: It's a terrible disease, and I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

We have two cats in addition to the dog. One, we got two weeks before the dog and he rules the place. We has another who also had FIS. We didn’t know right away, they were concerned that he wasn’t gaining weight. We fed that guy over and over and weighed him 6 times a day. It became obvious when his motor skills started to go. You’re right, it’s an awful disease.
Newest guy is a year and a half and healthy. He just hides whenever anyone comes to visit.
