Matthews 7th all time in goals per game. Right there with Ovechkin (The defacto greatest goal scorer of all time) and ahead of Wayne Gretzky. Laine is better - PlatosRepucklic

You do realize that guys have higher goals per game during their prime years and decline as they age?? Wait and see where Matthews ends up at the end of his career before going off half cocked. - TurdFergeson
He still measures in as '(frank)ing awesome' when measured against guys at this stage of his career. So no we can all go full cocked about his ability to score goals. |

Greatest Leaf of all-time. Just wish he didn't turtle and allow himself to get ragdolled all of the time, amirite/amirov? - mjones242
Greatest leaf all time?
He hasnt helped the team accomplish anything yet. Greatest goal scorer, sure.
Overall leaf, not yet.
Edit: I get that the leafs as a team havent accomplished much in the past 60 years. |

So the greatest leaf has to come from one of the 13 Cup winning teams? |

He's the most talented player to ever wear a Leafs uniform.
"Greatest Leaf" = talent X years X impact.
You can't call Matthews that yet, but it's not a fair comparison, as he's at the start of his career. |

Only 28th in all time points and only four gold medals in international play and 20 or more goals in each of his first 17 seasons. Only Dionne and Jagr accomplished that but yeah, hard to figure.

Don't get me wrong, Sundin is a HHOFer (trolls gotta troll, but they should at least troll well), but I don't really give a crap about his World Championship medals.
If it isn't best on best, I don't give two poops about it.

Agreed.
He's been around long enough and he's done some great things in the reg season. But for he hasnt dominated in the playoffs....which is where he'll have the greatest impact.
Just saying its a little too early to be calling him the greatest leaf, he may end up being that....but too early for now imo.

Math needs work here - 4 cups in the sixties, 62,63,64,67. In that sixty year span, only Habs and Oilers would have more. So nah.

Didn't Sweden win Gold in 2006? And I think Sundin lead the Olympic tournament in scoring in 2002. I mean, that's some pretty best on best right there. |

Depending on the year and who was playing, I would agree. I included 4 gold medals - three world juniors, and the 2006 Olympics. Hard to argue that the best weren't playing in those tournaments. In addition, Sundin would have been the best player and captain on the majority of those teams.

Absolutely - wasn't talking about his Olympic gold.
I don't think I've ever seen a better individual performance in a best-on-best international tournament than Sundin in the 1996 World Cup (the first year it wasn't the Canada Cup).
Canada beat Sweden in double-OT, but every time Sundin stepped on the ice, I was terrified.
It was the same night as friends' wedding, and the venue didn't have a TV. A bunch of us ended up bailing on the wedding after the dinner to go watch the game (ran back in between periods to the wedding - yeah, classy.
I felt guilty - they were both friends from high school - but they divorced about 20 years later, so it looks like we made the right choice!

Oh poop, my bad. I had assumed World Championships, not WJHC.
He won three?
Wow. |
