Depending on the year and who was playing, I would agree. I included 4 gold medals - three world juniors, and the 2006 Olympics. Hard to argue that the best weren't playing in those tournaments. In addition, Sundin would have been the best player and captain on the majority of those teams.

Maybe Gary and Parros can figure a way to bail them out, and further justify their existence. Parros could fine every Leaf player max fines each game for breathing for the rest of the season and then Gary could make sure the Yotes get the first overall pick. It would be a great way to grow the game.

That six team league had only about 130 NHL regulars. Sick of people discounting those cups pre 1967. Rangers were an original six team that won only 3 cups up until 1994 ending a 54 year drought. As someone that looks at hockey history, both the Rangers and Leafs are important teams, in fact key teams to the success of the NHL. Yes there are 32 teams now and teams like the lowly Coyotes - which would have had difficulty competing in the AHL in the sixties yet are included in the stats.

Leafs have had the longest drought since expansion, no question. Leafs are also in better shape as a franchise IMO than any of those original six teams except perhaps the Rangers - and I would call it close. So, as I originally stated, they have had terrible management over the dry spell, they are in much better shape, and better managed now.
