I guess it depends on what you call good. He is a shadow of the top PP point producing defenseman in the NHL. He is not the right guy for a top PP. Provorov doesn't move or distribute the puck well. Nor does he shoot the puck well on the PP in my opinion. Also not very effective in zone entries. - MJL
Talking to you for years and know you as a Matt Carle supporter, I wouldn’t pick on Provorov’s shot. Provorov doesn’t have a cannon but his shot is fine. The entire team has a zone entry problem. I think the one defenseman on the ice on the power play should be the least of the zone entry problem. I won’t agree with your other points and just make the point that Provorov being third on the team for PP points behind Giroux and Konency since Vigneault was hired, speaks volumes for the rest of the team. My issue with Provorov on the PP is letting passes hop over his stick and allowing the puck to leave the O zone. |

Don’t worry. ESPN says there is a 75% chance they hire Tocchet - hereticpride

Again, all completely anecdotal. - MJL
You keep saying anecdotal (evidence), but you really mean circumstantial (or to be even more precise, circumstantial relationship evidence). Anecdotal would be if I said I bumped into Hexy and he ranted about Homer.

yeah, and to me that is a bit of the luck factor. (at least the factor that diminishes its replicability by sheer design).
Yes, they should be lauded for making the moves they made to clear up space. a lot of those were good players that hurt the product big time to lose. but it sure does help when the premier free agent signing in some time cherry picks you. the allure of the big apple, big city etc whatever, but thats not something every franchise can just bank on. |

It was widely reported when he was hired, he gave interviews about its importance etc.
Though I have to confess, Ian Anderson does not fit my mold of the kind of guy I would like to be there in that role.

I'd need to see the numbers. How much was he into it in comparison to other GMs? IS there a graph or heat map? |

IIRC he was kinda just dabbling even though he was coming from LA, which had a relatively advanced program at the time.
Hexy does get credit for finally getting the team to flesh out the department, but I never saw anything that would suggest that those people got a seat at the adult's table.
The Flyers are still so far behind the curve that its not even funny. |

Then top it off with a future Norris trophy defenseman not wanting to sign anywhere else but with the Rangers. Helps a lot.

I'd like to know what analytics if any, told them to walk away from Dougie Hamilton. Man I wish the Flyers had signed him.

You may be right, I know a lot less about these things than you do, but there was a lot of "noise" about it, as in articles/comments/discussions. Even on this board.
Whether such noise translated into action and why it did or did not is a different story.
I believe you (bolded), based on my gut instincts and some casual investigations. But what is the curve?

i do believe a few of us were saying that he was who they should have gone after. obviously you never know why a guy signs where and if other teams are even in the running etc. it blows my mind how carolina seems to just keep on running without him.
also, you recall my absolute glee with the risto deal haha |
