Only 1 guy causing "uproar", afaik....but in his defense:

If Couturier plays the way he is doing now, hey, great re-signing. He is essentially invisible, making errors, and can be a nice cap anchor.

Problem is, I agree this is a blip. He will revert back to trend. Now, Flyers are far from turning a corner. They have many long term contracts that are huge burdens. They might actually be worse off than when Hextall took over, both in terms of talent and finances.

My guess, it will take 5 years to climb out of this hole. Doesn't matter who is GM, who is coach. During those 5 years, during which we will not even skirt contention, he will probably worsen our draft position by at least 5 spots. After that, he will be, at best, an expensive, aging 7.5 mil 3C?

How many teams have had one of those when they are contending? Usually, those guys tend to be vets signed on short term deals (Like, say, Eric Staal last year).

I agree with your timeline but we also have to recognize why that is. It's because of the previous lack of patience by management. I don't see why barring any major injuries, why Couturier can't remain a #1 center through that 5 year period. Saying it will worsen their draft position is just speculation. Couturier in my opinion is not a player that will become a cap anchor. It's certainly possible but I don't believe that he will.

I believe they are in the worst spot I’ve ever seen them in. There were plenty of teams less talented like 06/07 and some hak era teams. But the amount of long term deals here is astounding. This will take quite a bit of undoing including buyouts/cap eating. I’m not worried about him worsening our draft position. If someone comes calling absolutely entertain them. But I’m not selling low. Anaheim is having a resurgence with Getzlaf.

If I’m GM multiple buyouts are in order. I would be signing 1-2 year deals for vets and trying to flip them at the deadline. This will go on for roughly 3-5 years

Buyouts are the absolute worst thing they could do. Why would they do that?

Well looking at it they could send Hayes to Lehigh valley after this year I believe. So yea I wouldn’t buy him out.

Looking at it, I misspoke. I guess there’s no need to buy anyone out. Salary retaining trades may be in order.

Now I'm wondering if Tulsky has GM ambitions...

Apparently, he does.

What does after this year have anything to do with it? Are you referring to his NMC? Do you know what happens in that case? The Flyers would carry almost 6M of dead cap space.

A team does not make the following moves all at the same time;

Let Dougie walk
Let their stellar goaltending go
OS KK cheekily
Zealously hang on to their draft picks

If they dont entertain the calculus of the chance of whole thing going belly up and them just using the subsequent good picks to retool. In other words, they are not as scared of being a lottery team as you were in providing a reason to keep Couts.

Torts or Tocchet....who ya got? These seem to be the names being bandied about the most in relation to the Flyers coaching position. I got Torts!! Need a reason to tune in the rest of the season to watch him fume at this hoard of sissies. Or he pushes the right buttons and turns it around. Hiring Tocchet would be such a Flyers things to do.

I just believe Hayes is going to be unplayable in about 2-3 years. He will fall off that bad.

You forgot one key thing. None of those moves at any time put them at risk of being a lottery team.

I think it's a mistake to make a permanent move now. Just let Yeo finish the season out.

The only move that needs to be made immediately is to terminate Fletcher. He cannot be the one making decisions for this franchise going forward. Flahr can handle the day to day b.s. and continue to oversee the scouting dept until a new head of the hockey operation is found and hired.

Plenty of people thought it was crazy of Minnesota to buyout parise and suter. They don’t look much worse for the wear now.

Hayes feels like a buyout

Fletcher is just a puppet though. A mouthpiece. Unless the flyers are really willing to meaningfully change the GM position doesn’t matter much

They aren’t going to be competing for a Cup next year so no need to take on 8 years of dead cap. Hopefully Hayes can somewhat bounce back next season and you can move him with retained cap in the summer of 2023

Can the GM who signed a player to a long-term deal survive buying that player out?

Would it not say I messed up signing this piece of crap?

OR are you thinking that chuckles is gone?

Having a #1c versus not having one doesn't change expected draft position?
