Another easy perspective to prove that this team is uncommonly bad? I've been following hockey for 40+ years and I've NEVER seen a team perform this badly after a coaching change. Usually a coaching change lights a fire under their arses for at least a few games. This team continues to sleep walk no matter what, but at least you have that end of game Giroux temper tantrum that we've seen about 40 times in the past 2 years. Does Vegas put up double figures tomorrow night? NEXT!!
- Phillywhiteout

This isn't really a coaching change, imo. Yeo was part of the group that couldn't get it done. Why would we think he'd get different results. Yes, I know he's had limited practice time at the helm, but I still don't believe that he'll have much better results than AV. He's not fresh eyes nor a fresh voice.

I don’t think Fletch should decline any phone calls these days….not sure many GM’s want to take his calls though.
- landros 2

They’ll happily take his calls. Did you forget what he gave up for Risto?

Sorry I disagree on that one. While I like him more than Fletcher, he was all in all a pretty mediocre GM

Then again, I’m old enough to remember Keith Allen and few will measure up to that standard.

Hextall did a nice job with the cap, but he put too much emphasis on 200 ft players over skilled players and his FA signings were nothing to write home about.

- BiggE

Just look at the guys from his regime , all inconsistent players. Not a single center, not sure what you’d consider Frost at the moment. And on top of that he was a nut case that treated people and alumni like crap.

Ya, you're right, getting back a 2nd and Haag will surely push us back over the top! G and Risto for sure should be traded at the deadline, as well as TK and the vets on 1 year deals like Brassard, who was our best PP guy last night BTW! I think Fletcher can get at least 2 1st round picks and a few other picks and prospects to jump start this reset.
- jd250

I'd rather have the 1st, 2nd and Haag right now than Ristolainen. You keep using the term reset. That's laughable. All of a sudden 1st round picks can jump this reset. In the off season you downplayed their importance because they won't play for 3 years.

If they're not going to move Giroux, nothing is going to change.

Accept this team for what it is.

This team has no identity, no personality, and that falls squarely on G's shoulders.

Been saying this for years and everyone always defends him.... G is the problem and needs to be gone

Whether you want to blame the coaches or the players, they're game is completely devoid of structure or cohesiveness. I've never seen anything like it.
- MJL

It looks like a bunch of guys who just met are out there playing pond hockey together.

Provorov has a considerable amount of peaks and valleys throughout the year, he’s an inconsistent player. That’s a fact.
- ClaudeFather

He's 24 years old.

Most D-Men are just hitting the league at that age.
Cut the guy some slack.

Moving Provorov unless you get an offer that is too good to pass up would be a mistake.
- MJL

I agree

Agreed. I also think fans tend to overvalue players and the expected returns.

He’s got about 400 games played man, I’m not cutting him any slack. He’s been asked to do a lot the minute he stepped in the league but at the end of the day he’s been hot and cold far too often.

I'll never understand how a person can believe one guy can have so much influence on an entire franchise, from roster decisions all the way down to how they play on the ice.

Sure Giroux is part of the issue, but its just stupid and frankly silly to say he is THE problem.

Gee, he's not able to pull the team up and handle his role all by himself on a team that is completely devoid of puck support and team structure. Go figure. It's shocking that his game deteriorates under those conditions.

100 %… I liked the idea of trying to retain as much draft capital as possible but was unsure why he couldn’t still address the nHL club. The major problem was his draft and development record was only mediocre and we get to watch it every night now.

His picks are performing so well...
- ClaudeFather

Impossible for all but the elite to perform well under these team conditions. I can't tell you if Hextall would've ultimately been successful. I can tell you that his approach was the correct approach and the team would likely be in a much better place now. It is far better to be a team with failed prospects and young players than to be a team that is aging with cap anchors.

Between our AHL and NHL teams combined we may be the sorriest franchise in the entire league.
How did we get here?

I hope the flyers finish in last place and they sell every asset that they have at the deadline. Stock up picks for an upcoming deep draft

I can't remember ever being this disappointed with this franchise

Agreed - if the guy was so horrible, such a bad influence on the rest of the team, he'd have been gone long ago.

He gets a pass for playing what, 15 games in a row now well below he’s capable? Stop babying the guy. He looked good to start the year but he’s been a disaster. 400 games in.

Yes, these are two others I would trade at the deadline, and will give us a decent return.

I won't lie.... This made my day. That's how I feel about this team right now. I wish I could be sitting next to that dog doing the same thing

I liked his approach in general. Problem was that it takes a long time and the bigwigs weren't having it. Maybe if he'd have taken a homerun swing every now and again he'd still be here.

Trade Sanheim and Lindblom yesterday. Please.
- mochoson

And then whine and moan when Lindblom (ala Nichushkin after his 0 goal year with Dallas) bounces back elsewhere and Sanheim's mobility is missed.

It's not babying the guy. It's being smart enough to identify the players who are good enough to keep and those that aren't. It's about being smart enough to know which players are doing the dragging down and which players are being dragged down. Provorov while not a top #1 defenseman, is in the latter category. Some also fail to remember just how hard it has been for this organization to develop quality defenseman. Provorov is a quality defenseman.
