Absolutely I would. Not that I think Sanheim is anything special but he is the type of player you need in today's NHL. Ristolainen is not. - MJL
Well, at least I know what Risto can do well .. what exactly does Sanheim do well?? |

Sanheim's mobility has gotten the Flyers what exactly? The guy can't play defense! He can't take the body, he can't win a puck battle and his mobility hasn't exactly made it easier for this team to do even a basic thing like enabling a clean zone exit! Last year Sanheim's mobility got him a -22 and this year offensively Sanheim's mobility has generated 0 goals and 5 assists. And how much are we paying this guy right now? $4.6M? How long do we have to see the player before we can admit what he is, he has played in 279 NHL games! - jd250
who offered him that kind of money? |

Can't agree with that. The major mistake was hiring Hextall to rebuild the franchise, then telling him he had to keep the team "competitive" while doing so. - BaronVonShiznit
Is it a known fact that he was "told" this? Who told him? How do we know?

So does this mean if the Wild have a good run this year your opinion of Fletcher changes? - jd250
If the Wild win the Cup with Cam Talbot in net and Ryan Hartman as their leading goal scorer, I'll eat your hat.
(but seeing as they're both former Flyers, it's probably bound to happen lol) |

He can skate extremely well. That's it.
He's almost always in good position. That's all it really means. He's like a target dummy that buys the other 4 players on the ice time to do actual work.
A useful skill, to be honest. Just not worth a 4.6m cap hit.
Does a single person on this board think this team would be that much worse if he was traded for a center and York was his plug and play replacement?

Ditto Lindblom for Allison. These are basic roster moves we can't even make until one of these over-priced players is gone. |

You can trade every single player on this roster, but if Comcast doesn't finally get a clue and hire an architect that understands where the game is headed (and lets them do their job w/o interference), then nothing will change. - Tomahawk
Hmm, and just yesterday you were providing good (and correct) reasons why Comcast is constrained because of the nature of the market.
Look at Detroit. Irrelevant bottom dwellers for years. Close to 100% attendance during these times before Covid. Will our fans stay as patient and support as long and as brutal a rebuild? Why do our fans get a pass?
It appears to me that Comcast and Dave Scott are the corporate equivalent of Giroux: doing their job well, and just being the most visible scapegoat for things that are frankly not part of their job description.

People were saying Jake was the problem and needed to be gone, too.
Ditto Ghost.
How's that working out so far? - Tomahawk
Ghost has slowed down sharply. Just like Risto's analytics, the reversion to long run average is just a matter of time.

Do I seriously need to explain what Hextall was trying to do? Again, some want to discount how lucky the Rangers got. That's not likely to be repeatable. They made some very good moves but they aren't what they are without Panarin and Fox. - MJL
There was little luck in what Rangers did. Brassard for Zibanejad....Nash in package that brought Lindgren...Spooner for Strome.. Fox for two 2nd rd picks.. Panarin was a UFA they outbid everyone. Used picks they acquired to draft Miller. Traded for Trouba. .Drafted Shestetkin years ago...Two of their #1 picks flamed out in Kratsov and guy they traded to LA. Only luck they had was moving up in last 2 lotteries and those guys are playing on the 3rd line...It was the plan Flyers should have done years ago. Trade away vets who still had value but wouldn't be there when future arrived...slick trades and minimal big ticket UFA signings ( to young guy who is difference maker) Panarin. |

Provorov should be one of the few (very few) untouchable players on this team.

And if and when Kakko and Lafreniere start to contribute, the rangers will be looking pretty darn good.

I disagree with you about luck, but let's put that aside. I'm saying I like the approach the Rangers took, they gave up as much as they could and rebuilt, at the cost of a few seasons. That is what I want the Flyers to do, give up everything they can and reset at the cost of a few seasons. Maybe even keep Yeo here because I think he is good with younger players teaching them the right way to play, and then hiring a coach once the team is ready to move to the next level. But I don't want to go back with hoarding draft picks while also trying to keep a competitive team on the ice. Its nice on paper but I don't believe it will ever work, as we have witnessed first hand under Hextall! - jd250
This rebuild that the Rangers have taken on has overall taken more than a few seasons. You'll look at one team and use that as confirmation of what you want to do and then use one team to say, see something can't be done. Just another in a long line of poorly thought out comments. Just like you thought Fletcher changed the culture and rebuilt the team in one off season. I'm not sure how many interactions between you and I it's going to take. Where you've been wrong most of the time and I've been right most of the time. Getting a player like Panarin and Fox is not likely repeatable. Hextall had the right approach.

What does Ristolainen do well besides hitting? Nothing. He is a mediocre player. Sanheim is more mobile and can attack better. He's also cheaper and doesn't need to be extended. We also didn't trade a 1st, 2nd and a player for Sanheim. When all is said and done with both players being pretty much equal. Looking at all variables, Sanheim all the way.

The Rangers did not outbid everyone for Panarin. Both the Isles and Columbus reportedly offered more. They made some very good moves but they were fortunate with Panarin and Fox.
