Varlamov is not getting moved in-season, waste of time to even discuss it. Good chance he gets shipped out over the summer, but that's a long way off.

If we’re still crapping the bed I can see it happening at the TDL when his cap hit will be less impactful.

How you gonna eat the puck for 15 seconds when your D partner can’t move?

He still has another year on his deal though. Pretty rare you see a bigger name get traded at the deadline when they have term left. Possible someone that someone that needs/wants a goaltender this year and next does pull the trigger on it, like the Oilers (but their cap situation may not allow for it) but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

If they can get a premium for him at the deadline I'm all for it, but so far he hasn't done much to make me think anyone is going to offer up more than like a 3rd round pick and a B-level prospect for him

Not sure if you have an Athletic subscription or not, but Staple just posted an article that took a pretty reasonable look at things right now.

Real hard for me to find any good reasons to justify spending more assets, after using up so many of them in the last three years, to bring in outside help.

I said in a post a week or two back that Lameriello due to his age and the age of the team I’m sure wants to push forward to make it happen this season at or close to at all costs. With that said I can’t see him gutting our prospect depth further if we lose a few more games. We’re about as close to the point of no return as we can get.

I was thinking the Oilers with them dumping some salary in the process to make it work. I think his playoff performance(s)/numbers may get us a bit more then that.

Unless a big winning streak starts tomorrow night then I'm not really seeing how they're going to get back in it. They're 12pts out of the wildcard spot right now (albeit with a bunch of games in hand on all the other teams). They'd need a lot of winning and a lot of losing from teams ahead of them to get back in it. At this point, I don't think they can afford to lose anymore games to the teams ahead of them

Hahaha I guess I’m crazy for typing out frustrations with proper curse words like an adult and not have it autocorrect to “frank” (thank you Ek) like I’m 5 years old. “Frank” doesn’t cut it anymore. Gotta go full bore!

I will admit that it did take more effort than it should’ve to go through the whole hyphenating but I stand by my post. I hate them.

Just looking at their cap, they don't really have much dump-able salary. All their high-paid guys aren't going to get moved and anyone that may get moved would mean negligible savings for them. I guess we could take Mike Smith (along with other assets obviously) back, but I'm not even sure they'd want to do that.

I don't disagree, but his 0-5 record and .884 sv pctg is a stark contrast to Sorokin's 6-6 record .924 sv pctg. I like having both on this roster, but at $5m, his days may be numbered.

sOrOkin has been stellar this year for sure I don't think anyone can argue with that. I just don't see Lou trading Varly when they are still trying to fight for a PO spot. now as tough as that will be if the Islanders are mathematically out of the PO then Lou may go out and get a capable backup and free up some $$ and retool for next season. That is if he and Barry aren't fired.

At the moment, they're "fighting for a playoff spot" in the same way I'm "hoping to (frank) Emily Ratajkowski"

I get that but they are not going to throw in the towel before its fact. Last night was a killer. I believe last year they only had 2 points more on their first 15 away games so there is a chance. They need to start winning and winning a lot.

Half. 2 PPG, 1 PPA

I'm assuming you meant of his 6pts in the last 4gp.

If you meant the whole season, 5 of his 11 points are PPP

No, I don't think they're going to throw in the towel unless they're more-or-less in the same boat at the trade deadline. But I'm searching for reasons to add players and not finding many.

Certainly was an option. He also had time to look for a passing option or even skate it out from behind the net as well. You have to understand every goal will be Chara's fault for some Isles Fans.

I agree, if they are out of the PO's by the trade deadline and are not playing the same quality of hockey that they have in the last few years I think Lou will retool. Not strip down and rebuild but certainly retool. I hope they can get their heads out of their asses and turn it around.

Not much to sell, unfortunately. Greene/Chara/Parise/Clutterbuck will bring some mid-to-late round picks and maybe a low level prospect or two. I am extremely skeptical they'll be able (or even willing, maybe?) to sell of Varly and/or Bailey. Those two seem like summertime moves to me, if they even happen.

Understood, with the Chara thing. He’s still doing 17 to 20 minutes TOI, maybe someone should rethink?

They'll have to win 2/3 of the remaining games to have a shot. There is no reason to give up any assets.

I don't have a subscription with them. At this stage I would be surprised if we made any moves. I would wager that Lou believes this roster can solve it's own problems and if they do fall too far out of the race they may drop a few of the older players off to acquire some picks. Even that I think is unlikely. We'll get zeeker and Nelson back soon. Pulock in another couple of weeks. They'll get their chance to work a miracle and then base their offseasin on the result

Yeah I'm actually kinda hoping to not see any trades right now, it doesn't seem like good asset management. A down year may be good for the Isles in the long-run. Not that I'm happy to see it, but getting a good draft pick and stockpiling some assets would refresh the prospect pool and give us some sustainability in the near-future.

Of course, I'd prefer them to turn it around and make the playoffs...but it sure doesn't feel like it's going to happen right now.
