I doubt it.
This is his team that is currently on a 3 game winning streak with a coach I'm sure he would of rather preferred compared to the two coaches that were forced upon him. By cheap FA - manvanfan

No Pres & a meddling owner the root of all that went wrong. JB hung out to dry & Green wasn’t held accountable like he did to the players. |

Maybe he’s just an idiot? - LeftCoaster
No. It is a sad realty that the management structure was so compromised cuz of ownership. Benning made mistakes sure, but he also had no guidance - Strong hockey guidance. When Linden tried to reel him in ownership listened to Benning. That doesn't make Benning stupid it makes ownership stupid for not respecting a proven organizational structure in professional sports. They thought of the president (Linden) as only a PR tool to sell tickets and not as an experienced hand to level off any missteps. That is proof of their stupidity and arrogance. |

3 in a row is a good start! I'm willing to temper expectations based on the relief of the change, but I expected more from the roster before the season, so them playing like a team is a good start.
Hogz finishing tonight was a big spark. Both Petey and Garland pulled a Forseberg. It was a good game and Demko won it. Hard not to be happy tonight! |

The hole to climb out of to get to the playoffs is deep. Will they have enough to do it?
7 out of the next 11 games are against div. opponents. That's a lot of points up for grabs. |

We need OEL back, Petterson to start shooting the puck and Halak to win a game or 2. |

Playoff odds were at 3.2% heading into tonight, wonder how much they will rise tomorrow |

It's naïve to think we'll be a playoff team, so the we just have to look for the positives in the short term. The players seeming to have rebounded their attitude and are playing aggressive which is a huge plus. Even if they don't make it this year, at least they aren't stewing in a culture of losing. |

Look to Calgary last year as well for a positive. Coaching change, didn't make the playoffs, now this year they're playing up to their potential.
Still a lot of season left. Don't think this roster is necessarily a playoff roster, but it'd be nice to see them make a run instead of tread water |

As my colleague and fashionista Thomas Drance reported Friday, AGM Chris Gear and senior director Jonathan Wall were let go by the Canucks. Their departure leaves several holes that will need to be filled, which with an incoming new president and interim GM in Jim Rutherford lines up with the idea of the new guy choosing his own people, which should come as no surprise to anyone.
I will say the timing of the firings is the oddest part of this entire situation. When you have Francesco Aquilini saying just days earlier that Smyl would lead hockey ops with the strong support of Chris Gear, it has a bit of a confusing angle to it all. With Farhan Lalji reporting that to his knowledge these firings were in the works before New Jim was brought in, it just lends itself to another bad optic under Aquilini, something we should all be very used to by now. Remember it was also just days ago that he proudly spoke of the exhaustive search they were going to do for a new president and/or GM, no beached barge would go unchecked, but then days later, Rutherford is brought in.
Maybe on its own you just excuse it as a bit of over-exuberance and miscommunication, but we’ve seen this same story play out with Tortorella, Judd Brackett, Trevor Linden, etc. Stories that don’t quite add up, wrapped up nicely in manager buzzwords.
I am sure everything was done very amicably, though.
At the end of the day, however, the end result of everything lands in the same place: It clears the way for New Jim to put his stamp on the organization and place people he’s chosen into key positions. That process is something that is very normal and by the book for new management, even if the handling of the dismissals felt off to you.

Canucks are 3 and 0 under Boudreau, nothing else really matters.
Also, nice to see Bruce is going with his workhorses on the back end.
Haven't been able to watch, bit a friend, who is a bigger critic of Hughes, than I am, has said he has been playing quite well, as is Myers.
If that is so, the team has 3 solid defensemen once OEL comes back and Poolman Hamonic and Schenn make for an okay defense, if the team continues to play with decent systems.
I look forward to be able to watch my Canucks again. |

For now they look like a much more engaged team that's ready to compete. I do wonder what new Jim is thinking though. |

Maybe Smyl started being more vocal and said these two do nothing for the organization and need to go? |

I'm sure there's more going on behind the scenes than we know. Probably just looked at what they've done over the years and didn't like the direction, or they had a similar outlook to Benning, or Smyl, or or or.
However, the Canucks being a terrible organization when it comes to clear and effective communication has seemed to continue |

I see the media guys like Ed Willis and Thomas Drance saying they didn’t like the way the firings went down with the last two guys, forget their names, and that may be true, but, at the end of the day I don’t care about the process of terminating someone within the organization. Just that there’s change. As it’s sorely needed. |

I think for me, like in the bit of the article I posted, it's in what is said versus what is done. If Aqua came out and said "We're still going over everything internally and evaluating people" and then fired them, it would make sense. But to say "that Smyl would lead hockey ops with the strong support of Chris Gear" and then fire him a couple days later, it's just mixed messages that after years of mixed messages from management keep the idea of a directionless and reactionary group alive. |
