In a cap world, it's very hard to separate a player and the proportion of the cap they're taking up. If he wasn't signed for as much/signed relative to what he actually brings, they would have more money to help team around him win games. Dumba and Brodin both make the same amount, would rather have one of them on the team for the cap hit as they're actually worth it.

But, to speak to his on-ice play, stringing 3-4 "solid" games together doesn't magically turn him into a good defender. It's encouraging the team is playing better and he is too, but my opinion of his isn't going to change over 4 games. If he plays lights out for the rest of his contract, I'll rethink it then.

Your biases aside, he's had a good season. I'd rather have Hedman, MacKinnon and pink fluffy clouds in the sky. That doesn't mean it's gonna happen. Nor does it change the fact Myers is having a solid year for us.

Damn that beer looks good. I've been on the wagon for 3 weeks with no plans on falling off anytime soon. I could stare at it all day.

Solid relative to what? Sure, he's played better than he has in the past, but that's not a great benchmark. Does it take a 7.2 million dollar defender to prop up your 6 million dollar defender? And my bias has been built up over the course of his contract – again, a few games doesn't change that.

Myers is an NHL caliber defenseman on a team, but he should not be a 6 million dollar top 4 defenseman. He'd be great as a #5 where his mental gaffes, miscues, soft plays, bad reads, poor awareness, and mist-timed pinches aren't coming against top lines and can be limited in limited minutes.

Anyways, you're not changing my mind, I'm not changing yours. No need to further this road, again.

"Who will I trade first?"

The answer is probably Pearson.

- NewYorkNuck

Damn Pearson last night made a good defensive play in the first period. The second period, a bad give away. He's a tweener middle 6'er that isn't showing enough attributes right now.

We're just not coming to the discussion with the same parameters, so really there's no need to continue. But know I appreciate you

Same buddy. I gotta admit it's pretty fun getting you wound up. Would you believe this all started with me giving credit to a guy for having a good game?

I'm not sure firing an AGM and the Cap guy are necessarily minor, especially in the context of the other hirings and firings, but I get what you're saying.
- NewYorkNuck

We had a cap guy? Certainly wasn’t noticeable.

Maybe Smyl started being more vocal and said these two do nothing for the organization and need to go?
- LeftCoaster

Wouldn’t be overly surprised to hear that Smyl is next fired. Thought he was a bit to assertive in his interview about butting heads with Aquilini.

I see the media guys like Ed Willis and Thomas Drance saying they didn’t like the way the firings went down with the last two guys, forget their names, and that may be true, but, at the end of the day I don’t care about the process of terminating someone within the organization. Just that there’s change. As it’s sorely needed.

the other stuff is for soap opera”as the world turns” guys.

Yes, over 25 mins he and Hughes did the heavy lifting for the D corps. All of them were solid.

Yes, this year he's had more good than bad. It's our forwards that need to pick up their Defensive zone play.

Look to Calgary last year as well for a positive. Coaching change, didn't make the playoffs, now this year they're playing up to their potential.

Still a lot of season left. Don't think this roster is necessarily a playoff roster, but it'd be nice to see them make a run instead of tread water

- NewYorkNuck

I'm not saying I think they make the playoffs after the start they had, but there will be teams with worse rosters who make the playoffs.
