Hunt and Burroughs on the 3rd pairing tonight. Yikes.
- manvanfan

Yeah I saw that. Hunt has been pretty brutal every time he plays. They're gonna have to shelter him heavily. Poolman in the top 4 is also a scary prospect.

Jim Rutherford will be President & Interim GM of the Canucks. The goal is to keep looking for a GM he can mentor, that process continues.

Guessing everyone in house wasn't good enough then.

I'm not sure what the dislike about Poolman is. Obviously he's not a top pairing. He's paid 2.5M a season so he isn't exactly hurting the cap. He is a plus defender 5v5. Blocks shots and isn't a major mistake prone defender. It's much better than having Burroughs in the top 4.

Brad Shaw looks to be doing a fair bit of defensive zone teaching, atypical for morning skate.

Be interesting to see if #Canucks’ new staff is implementing D-zone changes, particularly considering that team 5on5 defense has been low on the list of this club’s issues this season.

Not an easy task after Jim has failed to draft or develop any D during 7 years that are defensively capable players.

Rutherford's drafting is key to Canucks success. He needs to do what he did and nab some mid round defensemen.

He started strong but hasn't been overly impressive the last month or so. He's jumping from a 3rd pairing sheltered minutes guy to the shutdown pairing. Kinda makes me nervous because he hasn't been consistent.

Ummm, yeah that is how it started. All that nonsense about a redhead and their tempers, well, it's true. Every word. I live in fear mostly.

The team in general has been pretty inconsistent

Game by game things change. I mean as I said they're paying him 2.5M a season. I'm not expecting the world from him just not to be caved in his own zone every night.

Myers at 6M hasn't been much better than him. Not 3.5M better.

See how he does having to play his offside tonight. Sure would be nice if Van had some lefty D available.

Excellent job by the team so far.
Getting a kick out of hearing the analytics gang saying how Rutherford and Boudreau rely on analytics, when all they do is say that, in order to shut up the whining idiot analytics crew. Lol.

An old coach of mine played with Bruce many years ago and still is an acquaintance, says Bruce just laughs at a bunch of these reporters who constantly bring up the advanced stats.
Apparently he doesn't like the Athletic crew very much and some guy named Drance.

When a real coach gets brought in and plays both Hughes and Myers over 28 minutes, it just goes to show how wrong some of us fans are, including myself.

I would venture to say that last game was because OEL didn't play and Hamonic were injured often.

Helps the forward group seems to be playing better defensively as well. Shaw is definitely making an impression though.

Anyone involved in "building" this team in the last 5 years should be given their walking papers.

Exactly!! Eight years of bad to mediocre hockey, 51 years if we’re being honest, obviously doing the same things over and over again with the same people expecting different results does not lead to success.
- LeftCoaster

51 years of no cups yes but there were many years in there of good/fun hockey. Just saying.

I think you're missing the point here. At this juncture it doesn't matter who does the firing. It's who does the hiring that counts. I think it's pretty clear Rutherford comes here with autonomy or he doesn't take the job.

I totally get why. I was just referring to the fact that those 2 players, who are often whipping boys on here, are counted on heavily by a coach who has systems in place and knows what the fuck he is doing.

As soon as you interjected salary into the discussion it was pretty obvious to me where the discussion was headed.

If 5 of our defensemen are Myers, Poolman, Schenn, Burroughs and Hunt for any Length of time, I’m sure a trade for a nhl calibre d man will be high on Rutherford’s priority list.
