No Sushi for Boudreau

A birdie told The Armies that for as long as anyone can remember, Canucks coaches get sushi catered in their offices after games.

The story goes that after his first win this past Monday night, Boudreau went into the offices, saw the spread and noted that it didn’t appeal to him.

“Too healthy for me!” is the droll story we heard.

You know The Armies can’t miss a Canucks sushi scoop, so we followed up with Boudreau on Sunday night about the sushi spread. He confirmed it all.

And as it turns out, the coaching staff still gets the postgame sushi. Boudreau has kept it around because the other guys eat it.

So what does Bruce eat?

“Postgame? Nothing, that’s why I’m so skinny,” Boudreau said jokingly.

The Best of the Real Super Scout …

The latest era of Canucks history failed because the club empowered a solid talent evaluator, and he struggled to construct a quality blue line or strategically plan for the long term.

There’s an irony here that’s worth delving into. Because as it turns out, the best drafting team in hockey isn’t necessarily the best at evaluating talent (although the Hurricanes are damn good), they’re the best at counting cards.

Carolina rarely uses its picks. Instead, the Hurricanes trade them, further down the draft order, for more picks.

They’re the NHL’s official volume shooters at the draft, having selected 11(!) times on average in each of the past three drafts. It might slow down the draft broadcast, but you can’t argue with the results.

There’s no real art to evaluating 17-year-old hockey players that can match volume. The Hurricanes know this. It’s why they’ll have nine or 10 players at the World Junior Championship this month, including four — four(!) — seventh-rounders:

https://twitter.com/Canes...onsecutive-canucks-win%2F

The Canucks, by the way, have averaged just under seven picks per draft over the past three seasons — and have selected only once in the first round. They’ll maybe have Jacob Truscott and Dmitri Zlodoyev at the World Juniors. Volume matters.

Worthwhile to trade later round picks, not as worthwhile to trade top 10 picks like the Canucks get

Nice to hear about the boys winning again. I see Bruce really likes Myers and plays him accordingly.👍

Who wrote that?

I think a lot was overlooked when someone wrote that.

Where are all these great amount of picks on the Canes roster?
Aho, Svechnikov, Jarvis, Necas, Lorentz, Slavin and Pesce. All the drafted players on their current roster.

Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Hughes, Demko.

7 on each team.

As for World Juniors, OJ made the World Junior team a couple times. Jack Rathbone did not.

Tyler Motte also made the WJ team and in the same year that Kyle Connor could have.

WJ don't mean a whole lot to who makes it to the NHL and who doesn't for 19 year olds.

It's also Shaw's job now. I wonder if he likes being back on the defence. I remember it was something he wanted to try and get away from just defence.

Both are clear upgrades over the previous two coaches.

The National Hockey League announced today that as a result of six Calgary Flames Players and one staff member entering the NHL's COVID Protocol within a 24-hour period, concern with continued spread, and the likelihood of additional positive cases in the coming days, the team's games will be postponed at least through Thursday, Dec. 16. The decision was made following consultation by the NHL's, the NHLPA's and Club's medical groups.

1st round picks (1 vs 4 top 10s)

Drance wrote it. I think it's looking at a recent trend. Of course WJ aren't the end all be all, but just highlighting a difference in philosophy from GMs regards to drafting. Can't really say the Canucks have a great prospect cupboard at the moment, while Carolina is regarded as having a really good one, despite being a much better team the last number of years than the Canucks.

And wasn't trying to insinuate anything, just know you like drafting so thought you'd like the observation.

So….another win for the boys

Had to shut it down after the second period, couldn’t keep my eyes open as we’re an hour ahead of the west coast. Busy day.

I gotta think, if it was Aquilini who made the call to re-up Travis Green I’d think they would’ve just fired him, Green, the fact that Aquilini cleaned house makes me think it was Benning and Weisbrod who made the call to re-sign him.

I know you weren't, we are just discussing the article now with varying points of view.

Carolina has traded away a few top 10 picks in recent years, Lindholm, Fleury, Hanifin. Van has also Oj and shipping Virtanen to Russia.

That team has also had Rod as a coach for the last 4 years. Canucks have had two bums for the past 8 years.

It's the likes of the previous GM in Rutherford that the Canes have that solid defence. When you can walk away with players like Slavin, Pesce, Faulk and Dumoulin in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds and get something good for them if they don't fit.

Different GM ideas from teams that are in different places and we won't really know for probably 10 years which one worked better.

Anaheim leading the division, did not see that coming. Troy Terry leading them in scoring, a 5th round Ducks draft pick...damn they draft well.

I question how long they plan on sustaining it. They have 11 games gone past regulation, most in the NHL.

How long do Terry and Milano continue to score at double the rate they ever have.

Getzlaf and Henrique have more points than they did all of last season as well.

I've been waiting for them to slow a bit but they keep squeaking those games into and getting that extra point.

Plus Terry was 1 pick ahead of Gaudette.

So has imac been kicked to the curb by FA also, Murph is scrapping the bottom of the barrel by putting Drance on the intermission.

Also regarding the players just now starting to play to their potential, the potential was always there, the previous coaching staff was at fault for stifling any potential the players had.

I thought I'd respond with this guy, as I know you like him so much

I don't know if it's sustainable, all I know is it's happening. Kinda like the Canucks of 2015 after finishing 6th last, or whatever it was, and then having a 100 point season. Probably not going to keep that pace up, unless they have kids sitting in the weeds ready to take the reins? I don't know enough about their system. I don't even know much about the Canucks system

Dan Murphy's a knob himself, any 50 year old man who cuts his hair like that is a tard...just my humble opinion. Even if he is just the host, not the producer who decides who comes on the show and who doesn't....he's still a tard

Ya they were there last year too, no?

I don't think those guys are good on-air people at all. Their writing is fine, can be hit or miss (Wyatt's the best for his post-games), but they just don't have a great TV personality thus far

I don't bother watching the intermission shows half the time, I just flip over to youtube/netflix between periods.

Yeah Wyatt's postgame stuff is great.

Hope so. IMac is nothing special. Drance though is worse.
