Odds are actually better then I thought

They are but it's still going to be a struggle to get in. Lot's of wins needed.

They will have to go on an historical run. I haven’t completely given up hope yet but I honestly don’t think this team has an historical run in them. I hope to be wrong about that.

How many Isles tested positive right before the home opener? Nice to see the NHL work so quickly on this one.

So, we’re down to 6 players instead of 10, huh? That’s awesome. Nice to know we probably sacrificed at least 4 games while Calgary doesn’t even lose 1. Nice job Bettman.

You had to know that was coming. I stated exactly that in a couple of posts it was pretty predictable. Absolute horse crap.

Doing some quick math, if the Isles need, say, 105 points to qualify for the playoffs and they have 19 right now, then they would need 86 more points. With only 59 games left they would need to win 43 of those. Now, they could take a loser point against the Western Conference on occasion, but not in the Eastern Conference.
Of course there are way too many variables at this point to have any kind of accuracy (Although I think some MIT kid could probably bang out all the possibilities in about 20 minutes). My point is, if they do make the playoffs this year it would be of a Herculean proportion. So my stance on team is, meh, whatever. I really hope they make it in and can make some noise. Otherwise, let's get through it, get a good draft pick and start fresh next year.

P.S. I'm sure Chief knows of some website that already has all the math and percentages of getting into the playoffs figured out.

- Isleshockeyman

They aren't making the playoffs. Its over. As they say, you can't win the Cup in November, but you can lose it.

I’m aware it wasn’t a pounding my own chest post

I just love that the nhl used us as a guinea pig and most likely punted our season in doing so.

I still think it was the islanders decision not the nhls.

Like I said to you in an earlier post I certainly hope not because if that word gets out that’s going to detract from a lot of the good these owners have done. I’ll also add that I doubt you’re right because it’s not only our team that’s at risk it’s the potential of infecting other teams as well…

Trotz said he hasn't talked to Beauvillier since benching him and can't say if he'll play on Tuesday against the Red Wings.

Bad for Beauvillier maybe. Guy has been horrible the entire season. It’s on him. Would love to see an increase in ice time for Wahlstrom who has absolutely earned it. Get Bailey the F off the first line. Bench him next he has been equally as bad.

Maybe Bluetaco will finally see his dream come true and Lou is going to trade Beau to St. Louis for Tank.

I think Bailey does JUST enough to keep Trotz's trust and keep him from being benched or scratched.
It just seems like the last couple years Bailey has picked up his play. We weren't ragging on him so much. As a matter of fact, if I recall correctly, he was being lauded on here by several for his solid play. This year though, he's reverted back to his old self and lazy style of play.

Was thinking the same thing but didn’t dare mention it. Now the blame rests firmly on your shoulders when he shows up

Meh. Bailey was good in the playoffs which is of course important but you have to show up during the season. Also, when I say good I mean good for Bailey he was still prone to mental lapses, giveaways at the worst possible time, and just being Bailey. With that said he has been pretty bad especially on the first line and on the defensive side of the puck. I’m sure he’ll have his moments like every season but there’s a reason he pretty much has negative trade value. Frustrating player. Guy doesn’t deserve anymore of a pass then Beau does imo.

Agree 100%.
I get so tired of watching him stand along the boards in the D-zone and do nothing more than flick his stick out a little bit. Feigning effort so Trotz thinks he's actually trying.

I know this maneuver well. Totally half arsed effort and it’s exactly why fans are on him more often then not. It’s not like he doesn’t deserve the criticism. At a time when this team needs to play with some desperation game in and game out we have josh Bailey who I don’t think I’ve ever seen play with some urgency. He continues to meander around out there barely moving his feet and still gets a pass. I say all of this knowing he’s due for a good game after twenty something bad ones

Watch, tonight he'll have 2 goals and an assist. One will be a seeing eye shot that somehow gets through. The other will be a broken-stick shot from the point that bounces off of his ass while he stands still 5' from the side of the net and trickles in. I can't recall ever being more frustrated watching a player than Bailey. The kid has some talent. If he had heart and hustled I'm guessing he could be a fairly consistent 25-30 goal scorer. I know he's more of a "play-maker" but you still have to shoot sometimes. He hasn't had a 20 goal season ever for the Isles. I thought he had at least 1. Does Bailey know to take the chains off come game time? Maybe that's why he doesn't move.

Aatu Räty (NYI) and Rami Määttä will not travel with Finland to Canada due to positive COVID tests. Roni Karvinen replaces Räty. Huge hit to Finland with Räty missing.

Chris Peters
@chrismpeters
Let me correct due to my shoddy translation. They have to quarantine, not confirmed positives. Räty's team is in COVID quarantine and that's why he's not available.

Barry Trotz says Mathew Barzal won't play tonight. He's in COVID protocol. #Isles

This season is cooked

I hope no Islanders make their Olympic teams, if the NHL even ends up sending players. The (frank)ing quarantine protocol in that third world shitstain is 3-5 weeks and two consecutive negative tests within 24hrs (non-symptomatic) and/or two weeks and then the same 2 neg tests in 24hrs if you are symptomatic

Unbelievable. Put a fork in her she’s done. I can give a rats arse about the Olympics anyway especially with it being they’re in China. We shouldn’t be going to begin with but that’s a whole other story all together. Lameriello should start thinking about what to do with the dead weight and be more worried about draft position then anything else at this point.
