I also wanted to echo some of the users on here, nice blog. It's nice to see someone on here trying to post new stuff rather than copy and paste, post the same info from other hockey websites to try to get users to comment on a blog. You post quality work on here, I'm sure Sens fans appreciate new content and fresh ideas.

No way I would give Norris the money the Habs gave Sukuki. That was another stupid Bergevin contract. Just look at what he gave Hoffman when no team would give that to him. Just because another team gave a player ridiculous money doesn't mean another team has to make the same mistake.

Norris deserves 7 x $7M and Formenton 3 x $3M... During next summer, Branstrom will be traded in a package deal for a top 6 RW.
Ony players I am missing are Demelo & Duclair, which Dorion should have signed 3x $4M. Other top guns wanted to leave town; so no regrets!

I think I'm the only one still bull'ish on White.
I will admit his numbers looked inflated playing with Stone and Duchene.
But what happened next is unfair. Two seasons of new coach (who hates him) and a rotating door of linemates. Yes his deal says "I should be able to carry a line" but that's not the player he is yet. And his important years have been squandered in a rebuild. He signed that deal at the worst time. He's very smart. A Bergeron light.

I agreed with Simmer's point about the hockey being played somewhere else. But why stop there. Why not just do everything about the Olympics somewhere else.

And to the Joe Rogan fan who came in here talking about the new variant being less severe - yes - that does appear to be the case....and you sounded half sensible until you started peddling horse de-wormer and inflamed heart conspiracies.

Is Barkov out tonight?

I think the team would buyout Zaitsev before Colin White, just a hunch from who I have talked too. The shoulder injury though might've changed that though. At least 80% of his salary is insured this year, wonder what Eugene did with that money saved? Oh right, nothing!
- Kevin Francis

Zaitsev, White, Murray, and Del Zatto are all buy out candidates. Given the thinness at forward, I assume, White will be sticking around, but who knows.

I see a buyout for Colin White as making more sense than Zaitsev. The buyout is at 1/3 instead of 2/3 due to his age. If you slot Norris, Stutzle, Pinto, Greig and Kastelic at center, White would be the 4th or 5th best option. While White is a decent player, he hasn't achieved a level where he couldn't be easily replaced by a player making $2M.

Murray is an easy call. The team could extend Forsberg at 2 x $1.5M and buy Murray out and still save money.

Del Zotto should be bought out as it would cost ~$1.5M to buy him out and the remaining $750K can be used to pay a depth Dman.

As for Zaitsev, I like the player for a bottom pairing D who plays up the lineup from time to time. Salary is high for the role he would play but he does bring a solid effort every night.

The Sens have to be careful with the Norris contract. He's a pure shooter which is fine if he's scoring 35-40 goals per season. Basically he's a soft player with a mediocre game and is being carried by the best 2 Fs on the team (Batherson and Tkachuk). Also you get more time and space when you're on one of the worst teams in the NHL but the opposition will play you a lot tighter if you're on a good team.
P.S. The Suzuki contract is ridiculous

Simmer said it best on Twitter earlier today. He said to have the hockey tourney at 2 former Olympic host cities in Calgary and Salt Lake City! There won't be fans in attendance anyways in China!
- Kevin Francis

I cant read his twitter, gives me a headache( same as listening) too chaotic . Knowledgeable person i dont doubt.
Regardless of thoughts of China , dumb idea.

In my dumb opinion all olympics should be strictly amateurs anyways. Pay them more for training and winning. It would be a true barometer of wich country has the best atheletes in any sport.

Good call on the 1/3 buyout. I didn’t think of that.

Norris is Turris 2.0. Decent second line centre but doesn’t necessarily make wingers better. Wingers make him better. Not necessarily a knock on the guy but something to consider come contract time. Unfortunately, the landscape of contracts for similar players and production is quite high.

Well that is easy.

Much prefer the actual existing roster...by a long way.

I believe Down Goes Brown had a great article on the Athletic of teams who would ice the best roster comprised of ex-players and Ottawa was right up there. I’ve always felt Ottawa has more quality ex-players elsewhere in the NHL then other teams always interesting when that is confirmed by others.

I no longer subscribe to the Athletic so I can’t double check the Sens and other teams rosters but I think it was just 5-10 players and a goalie.

Never saw it but I don't subscribe to the Athletic either. Regardless, no doubt Ottawa has developed a lot of great players that went on to other teams.

Oh I have thought this too, glad you posted it. I wonder how he would do without either of those wingers? He is a pure shooter, PP one-timer, but ya I am not sure I would go 7 or 8 years with him.

Love that comparable!! Turris wore down at a young age, small guy, almost too skinny and he took a pounding, his play fell off fast and he was the same, that one-timer on the PP, etc.....
