Pretty much my point... players that the Canucks developed... tougher younger grittier players were replaced by players no better. I'd take their character and toughness over Greens choices any day. - boonerbuck
I guess I still don't see the fuss. I think homegrown always outweighs ufas as far as philosophy, but I truly just don't see either of those players being worth any sort of gripe. Chaisson isn't great and probably should not have been signed, but he has more goals than both combined. Dowling is just average, but so are the rest.
If the Calibre of player was higher than that of gadjovich or macewen, I think I would probably agree. Neither players to me will be regular NHL players in the next few years, much like chaisson or Dowling.
I haven't watched the Sharks play or bothered to see their fans comments on those guys, but I definitely trust Boudreau's player evaluations over Green's.
I think young role players especially should develop better under him than Green. Not saying Bruce is a miracle worker who will get every young player to pan out, but I sure as hell like their chances better now than I did a couple of weeks ago. A guy like Lockwood for example. - Nucker101
If it was lockwood claimed it would be a much different story. Or say Rathbone claimed in place of schenn or hamonic. If any UFA signings put any of those young players on the wire I would be upset, I guess I just don't see the value in either gadjo or macewen.

I'm fussing about Green's choices. You don't see a problem with them. We made our points.

One thing that needs to be addressed, is if the league isn't going to postpone games as often as the teams wish, then give them cap relief from call ups... teams having to play short becuase of the cap and covid is ridiculous.
Teams needing to play a man or two down because of cap complications is absolutely idiotic. Playing 5 d and 3 and 2/3 forward lines is not good for the sport, the team, or the audience.

I’m with you, don’t really care about losing fringe players on waivers if that’s how it has to be. But… Benning was stupid. There were options for him not to lose anyone, especially given how many injuries this team regularly incurs. It’s the “if he earns a spot I’ll make room no matter what” mentality…

I think it comes down to the very thing that they've been preaching over the last couple of weeks. Taking on outside players that are sideways roster moves instead of promoting from within stifles culture.

I'd agree except that we're not talking about 3rd liners or 5/6 defensemen though, if they're only aiming to be fringe forwards/d-men, then it shouldn't matter whether you promote from within, or take players from other organizations. You're not expecting them to contribute that much anyways and only act as injury replacements for short bursts.
