If you want an answer from someone with some level of knowledge about musicianship, then Rush, or possibly The Guess Who or Joni Mitchell.

First of all, watch how you throw around the word musician!
Secondly, I totally agree that an argument is there for Neil Young. My personal opinion would put Neil Peart above him as a writer/performer. So, that puts Rush a step ahead.
I will admit that I erred by not including him in my list.
