As I have said, a few times, the roster construction isn't that great.
I have no problem if they were to move on from Miller, provided it was a nice return. I also have no problem if they were to move Boeser.
Not many untouchables on this roster, regardless if they are on a hot streak. - Reubenkincade
100%. I would go even further and say that there are no untouchables. You don't actively shop everyone but you don't cut someone off who wants to make an offer. For the right return, I'd trade anyone on this roster.
How about listing when the players got those contracts? Would it be when the teams were slightly above re-build or were they into contendership?
Benning left a sh!tty cap situation. If you go cap heavy on centres, you're going to lack depth and the ability to add in different positions.
And that's what's been shown by a lot of your examples. Sure, there's great depth in some positions (especially in superstars on those teams) but most lack complete teams as evidenced by their results. - RealityChecker
Colorado loaded up on depth last year for the playoffs and still did Jacksquat.

and? are you implying that my position is that depth guarantees success and the colorado example disproves that?
let me simplify: i believe that having depth throughout the lineup is better than loading up on one position. as the team stands, it wouldn't be the best course of action to spend a lot/most of the remaining cap on one position (unless it's defense.) this won't guarantee success though. nothing will.

Depth is a great thing to have.
One roster construct works for one team, does not mean that it will work for another.
Canucks probably need to split OEL's contract is two contracts to pair with Hughes and Myers or they need 3 really good really cheap ELC's
Team can certainly spend 20-24 million on centers but you then need wingers that are on ELC or 4-5M contracts that are scoring 60 points a season.
There is just a lot of ways to go about it. There isn't just one recipe for success.

There has got to be a starting point. - manvanfan
I would start with the player that will fetch the most return. The player that I'm not sure will sign with the team and if he would, it would probably be for a contract that is too long and for too much. That contract would also expire when the player is on the decline (most likely.)
That would be my starting point. The other riff-raff (you've mentioned) can also be included but those aren't very consequential moves.

It could come down to what player x is expecting on his next contract and if the team wants him for that much and can afford him.
It's like signing Tanev and Toffoli or Virtanen and Schmidt.

Schenn doubled over in exhaustion after last drill. Not surprising after overcoming positive COVID-19 test, having some mild symptoms.

Anyone other than Demko and /MAYBE/ Hughes and /MAYBE/ Petey (mostly because you need to have something to start off the roster rebuild) should be open to be traded. I'd like to at least get rid of some of our higher priced players like OEL, Myers, Miller, Boeser and Bo and start replacing them with younger, cheaper RFAs and ELCs

I all for controversial high profile trades just for the sheer meltdown and drama in here!

I love Bruce, I just don't think this roster as constructed is gonna sustain this win streak, it's why I wanna blow it up and try for Bedard next year. You aren't winning with Petey as your 1C or 1W or whatever you think he is as your star. But I know I'm in the minority here so whatever.

I have no idea what Rutherford wants to do, but starting a rebuild/retool works for me.
As Reality Checker said earlier, at least start the process of ridding the team of players that don't fit into his vision and timetable.

Rutherford stated the same, holes in the roster. Fix the D and Benning mistakes.
No games, but lots to talk about as the Canucks continue practicing, their Covid outbreak seems to be in check for now, and Abbotsford's games are also postponed through the Christmas break.
