From what I can gather based on my experiences here, most of the time it's wage.

Just like how a guy who scores at .80 ppg over his career is already being traded because of wage.

Plus why Miller is being traded, his wage will be too much.

And he’s old balls, no one like old balls

Honestly both Miller and Boeser are good players, they need them both, but, when you have holes in your lineup and you need to fill them, plus your prospect pool is shallow, you have to move people if you want to be competitive in the present.

The Maple Leafs have placed defenceman TJ Brodie, goaltender Jack Campbell, defenceman Travis Dermott, head coach Sheldon Keefe and assistant coach Spencer Carbery into the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol.

It's weird how you went forward, backward, forward, two steps backward, then another step forward all in the same paragraph.

Did you end in the same place?

Do you think the team will trade their best player? I can’t see a rebuild happening so they need to trade one or two of their middle six forwards to shore up the D

Depends on a lot of things, I have no idea. How competitive do you think Rutherford thinks the team is? Do you think Rutherford thinks the team will compete for a Cup before Millers contract is up and he’ll re-sign for a decent number? These things aren’t about “right now” they’re about the future.

A good poll question, Miller or Bo. Or Boeser I guess. I’d imagine Boeser would finish last but it would be a toss up between miller and Bo
- CanuckDon

3 different example if what roles they fill…

Boeser a sniper
Miller a scorer & play driver
Bo an all around core player

That all said need them all or a hole is created & not easily filled.
Cap navigation & home team discounts are needed if they all want to be part of success together or go chase the money.

So patiently wait four years for us to develop a Dman? Then what’s the point of signing Bo and Miller?
- CanuckDon

There are drafted D developing as we speak.

Why would anyone complain about a defenseman that can play 25+ minutes a game against top players?

Funny, nobody ever seems to complain that OEL is getting 7.2 mil for his 5 points this year.

He was signed before the flat cap.

I agree except with Boeser. He needs to be moved before the summer. $7.5MM Brock is a negative value asset
- CanuckDon

I’m not assuming anything let alone his QO will be made. He & his agent should know he isn’t worth that. Given his injuries & some inconsistency a 6yr team friendly would be more in line.

For me it’s about what Rutherford said, getting the ages aligned for when the teams ready to be competitive. Miller or Boeser….really depends on a lot of things.
- LeftCoaster

Layering the roster age is very important. Both on roles & price. ELC’s will always be key now & in the future. JR has some tough choices & work to do.

What is Petey's scoring rate at ? Is he worth his 7 mil contract?

Filling holes by creating holes is just shuffling chairs.

Building a roster starts with allocating cap dollars but how to get that done is the mission.

Cherry picking & doesn’t matter until we are PO team & can consistently be one. The bigger question is the time line to be a contender & if he is a key part of it.

Your thinking is very narrow minded, no disrespect, it’s not about what his contract is worth at this very moment. It’s about what it’s worth over the life of the contract. Everyone knew he was in a struggle because of his contract holdout, he’ll be worth it over the three years of the deal. At least in my opinion

Because ridding ourselves of Beagle's LE's and Rousells' contracts were more important tho. Big win for JB...oop I mean...whomever

A quick glance at our cap allocation…

D has 3 pricey contracts that need to produce at that cost. Hughes is fine at his cost. OEL does what paid for but more points would be nice. Myers has to continue playing as he is & the other D to be good in their roles & very good value.

Down the middle I spend on C’s & the wingers get less. Petey has underachieved obviously but give him some time to reset for when it really matters. Bo is invaluable to this current roster. Same goes for Miller. Garland proving to be a very good value. Boeser’s new deal will be a challenge & much hinges on that. Pod & Hog are under control & shouldn’t be an issue. Pearson has to produce or is a trade asset. Dlcky has underachieved & must get it going. The prospects & draft picks have to improve to feed the system & become mid to bottom good role players in years to come.
