Yes I like Buchy but he needed to go for salary Cap reasons, but that trade got a terrible return.

Unfortunately, his value was whatever another team was willing to pay. If you look at all the teams in the playoff hunt, theyre all pretty much maxed out on cap space and wouldnt have been able to make a trade for him. The goal for the Rangers was to move him and take on no contracts beyond 2021.

Pav's would have been ideal but his NTC is essentialy a NMC since its limited to only 3 teams and he doesnt want to leave Dallas. Dallas as no cap flexibility so even if Pav's wanted to come back he wouldnt be able to because of a Buch extension.

Vegas is in the same situation, a Buch extension would hinder them heavily, and Im sure they were too busy working out how to get Eichel to care about Buch. Knowing that Eichel would kill them cap wise, they need to have guys like Smith on the roster because hes tradable to make the cap space for Eichel. You dont trade for Buch, and Eichel, and then trade Buch because Eichel is coming back. Thats not good management.

Players like Sammy Blias turn out to be playoff heroes because of the way the game changes when the playoffs start. It’s really a shame he had his season cut short on a very questionable play.
