My nod goes to Dave Nonis but it’s a toss up between him and JB.

It's Nonis. By a mile.

It’s always easier to blame a GM after picking up the pieces of a bare cupboard & problem contracts. JB did have an opportunity to be a great GM if he got it done. He wasn’t close so he’ll get branded as an easy target. MG inherited the best roster of any Canucks GM. He also left the biggest mess.

Very happy ro hear that someone else understands this also.

Also it was a great post by Makita to state how Green was such a career killer perfection would have been to have mentioned the "systems" of Baumgarter! But can't split hairs.

Based on length of tenure, it's Benning in my opinion. Nonis is easily #2.

Even Nonis was better at drafting than Gillis though.

Pretty much agree. More specifically lack of RHD prospects & mid 6 C’s. Not worried on LHD. Never say no to elite playmakers or snipers if draftable.

I heard bb might try Hughes on the right with OEL, Myers and Rathbone when he gets healthy. Keep in mind rathbone struggled With green, they all did but he has a good skill set.

I think if JB didnt resign Green and hired BB or another capable head coach, this team would have had a better start and most like top 3 in this division. He would still have his job. As I predicted before the season started, Green would be the end of Benning.

Green was terrible. The 4 Point defensive box cuz the goalie is going to stop the shot if he sees it...classic gambler strategy to play the odds that ignore skill and the randomness of deflections

Well I mean hiring coaches is part of his job so he failed there.

See no reason why a rover cannot play RD if too many lefties. Suggested it many many times.

Yes of course. I didn't imply otherwise. He should have never of resigned Green. Not sure how you get that it wasn't a mistake out of what I said.

JB had a boss that had to agree to signings. Again no Pres is on FA & his cheapness along with all the other dysfunctional problems it caused.

Incredibly simplistic and shortsighted
- CanuckDon

Sorry, getting to work now on a contract extension, instead of waiting until the last minute, is simplistic and shortsighted?

I know you want to throw the Boeser out with the bath salts, but you aren’t the interim GM. If the organization wants The Flow long term then getting to work on the contract now, while he’s not producing massively, could be an opportunity to get him at a number that makes more sense long term.

Personally, I already suggested trading him because I think Höglander could do his job if given the opportunity and the team desperately needs better defenders.

What the hell are you talking about? Where did someone say they are weak? Some of you need to improve your reading and comprehensive skills

Benning was the end of Benning.
- Marwood

That sounds like the perfect opening line for a new Lee Child book.

Benning was the end of Benning. How could Reacher blame anybody else for the carnage he saw before him. The wreckage covered four football fields and as the olive green Humvee pulled away with Benning handcuffed in the back, Reacher knew he would never see him again, but the questions still lingered. “Why bring this on? What was his end game? How could he not have seen this coming?”

Agreed. He probably pulls the trigger on that Sedins for Brad Richards trade offer to try to save his job.

And before someone comments, yes I was pretty young back then lol, but I’ve read enough about the Nonis era enough to know what he did good and bad.

He would have resigned the twins for less, Gillis came in and slighted them by making comments about wait and seeing on them , which ended with matching 5.75 mil contracts, Nonis would have got them in around 5 per. Gillis would have destroyed this franchise and team if Sundin had taken the 20 mil.

Yeah, that Sundin contract offer was atrocious. Gillis got good value of most of the contracts he signed, it's the ones he traded for that hurt him(Ballard, Booth). I think he started off well but his drafting sucked and he made some pretty bad moves after 2011.
