What worries me is the shutdown of various markets due to COVID. Right now, with Omicron, cases are spiking, for sure. But hospitalizations aren't spiking to the same degree in most countries. Even if the NHL switches to a mandatory online subscription base for ongoing games, I say go for it. No, it's not the same as live, but for now, we need to keep it going in one way or another. If all teams are vaxxed up to current standards, there's no reason why they shouldn't continue.
Is it a pain in the ass for all involved? For sure. Owners lose revenue from empty stadiums. Players have to stick to tough protocols. The public is stuck at home.
It sucks, for sure. But for now it's the best option going forward.

When COVID first hit the World, some said that it was just a flu…. Trump called it the Chinese flu…
This was proven wrong and we all know the toll this took on the population, especially the old and vulnerable people…
Omicron seems to have much less negative impacts than initial COVID or Delta but we still apply same precautions…. Is it right or wrong? I am not a doctor so my opinion is worth nothing but I think shutting down a tournament because some 18-20yo double vaccinated athletes who tested positive and not having bad symptoms are testing positive is just an over reaction….
I personally know 5 people who got it(Omicron) and they all telling me that is is like have the flu…. Nothing worst than any other flu that had in the past…
Let’s say that there are new mutations like Omicron coming every 6 months, does that mean 2020 will have been the last World Juniors or maybe the last Olympics??? Maybe we will have to get over this paranoia and live with the fact that COVID will never disappear and just be there for ever(like the flu…)

The real difference is the amount of actually vaccinated. It's not a cure, per se, but severely lowers the chance of severe symptoms. The best simili would be Shingles/Chicken Pox vaccine. Yeah, you've had the vaccine, but it needs updating, or you're still at risk. Yes, COVID is a superpowered flu. We may need to update our shots like with the flu shot. Add long as we can keep people from dying, that's the important goal in the end. There's no miracle cure. Maybe later, but for now, we all have to suck it up and do what we can to protect each other.

yup lol, same here. it might be less dangerous but it's far more contagious, so if you look at the numbers you'll notice the number of hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise. it sucks but holding sport events at all costs in this context is not the best of ideas, especially considering the WJC players weren't held in a tight bubble or anything.

it's pretty clear that canceling the season will be an absolute last resort for the NHL...

you mean I'd have to pay a fee to watch the games, despite that I'm already paying to watch the games on RDS and TVA? (frank) that, hard pass for me lol

the NHL has far more flexibility with scheduling in order to play. the WJC is a very fixed schedule. someone else mentioned to me but it would be nice if they could somehow play the tourney later in the year.
